Starvation
#1
The wife and I are going to Starvation for first time tomorrow. New boater so learning a lot. Can anyone give me some advise what might help put fish in the boat. Koke's, rainbows, browns are the targets.
Never fished for walleye but suggestions are welcome.

I fished Starvation yesterday for 6 hours with a friend. We were targeting walleye using tube jigs tipped with nightcrawlers. No walleye for us and we only caught one rainbow each. My friend's rainbow was a 20 incher and in great shape.

The rainbows seemed to be pretty active feeding on emerging insects and the always plentiful skuds. I would think trolling shallow would be best for the RBT now. I think the walleye are just finishing their spawn and they haven't gone back to actively feeding yet. We talked with a DWR crew who were checking gill nets. They caught some nice fish and we learned the larger females have completed their spawn.

The walleye fishing should improve as we get further into the spring. Try trolling a perch pattern Rapala for the larger RBT and Browns.

Good luck.

i fished starvation from the tube today. Only 2 bites, caught a 25 inch walleye and 17 inch smallmouth on 3 inch gulp minnow. The eye was spawned out. The shallow water near the bank had rainbows cruising around. Some real toads too.
Good luck,
Gabe
