Strawberry Fire?

Hello everyone. I wanted to take my family up to Strawberry (on the Soldier Creek side) today to catch crawdads.

Does anyone know if the fire up there has shut down any of the Strawberry roads? Is that side of the reservoir all smokey?

Have a friend who lives in Fruitland and is a police officer, as of last. Evening the fire was South of Fruitland a few miles and headed East south of highway 40. Couldn't give you any info on the smoke around Strawberry.

Smoky yes, closed no but subject to change, just be advised that emergency vehicles are coming and going all day and stay clear of all operations.

I just called the Heber Ranger District. They said it is smokey but nothing is shut down. There may be some fire-fighting traffic through the area.

fished there Sunday and Monday out of Strawberry marina no problems. You can see the smoke but it's a ways away from strawberry bay. here a couple photos look close in the background you can see the smoke..

Good pics -- but Hey! you're fishing in my secret spot! [fishin] ....you'd think the wind would be keeping smoke heading more North, or East, so away from Strawberry....but I guess that can change too....hope to check it out on Thurs....did you do any good on Monday?

There was a day I not long ago I could go out and catch fish any where any day anytime!!!

Well I guess it's time for me to realize I am not that person any more.

I feel I could not catch fish at the fish farm anymore!!!

fished until 130pm caught 2 cuts 15" and 17" one 17" koke one 15" smallmouth. 5 fat crawfish!!!

told the wife i was conning home with a limit of kokes but only came home with one😭

no wind from 5:45 am until 11:20am light wind from 11;21 to 12:30 good wind started around 1:45pm beautiful lake and mornings.

I know others did much better then we did so hope you have a great safe fun day up there.

expect cool morning and warm afternoon. 38 when the sun comes up and felt like 110 until the wind came up but probably in the 70s.

You caught a smallmouth ? I did not know they were in Strawberry or Soldier Creek.

And yes I know the differance between a smallmouth bass and a chub...

I have heard stories and even seen a pic of smallmouth at the berry.

Information from Strawberry Bay Marina & Lodge:

-The lodge is still open and not evacuated. The fire is burning towards Fruitland. There is no haze, nor smoke smell in the air near Strawberry Reservoir.

tks for recent info....I'll try to give a "hands on" report when we get back from our Thurs. A.M. trip....Man, I feel bad for all involved with that huge fire....Can I do anything to help? Probably not...Should I just stay away? The wind changed for a few hours last night, so they called for a voluntary evacuation for the Aspen Grove area. But now the wind is blowing east so you should be fine today. The road to the damn is still open.

Wind changed direction West and now Soldier Creek is under evacuation orders.

My friend told me the wind direction changed today and is moving some of the fire back toward Soldier Creek and that they did not allow any boats to launch today. The fire jumped highway 40 at mile marker 55. This picture was snapped by my buddy who is working the fire as a police officer and it was snapped this afternoon on highway 40 about a mile east of the old Current Creek store and gas station heading toward Fruitland.

I was on the Strawberry side yesterday, July 4th. Launched with no problem - do not anticipate closure of the Strawberry side - smoke looks to be on the east side of Soldier creek. A long way and a lot of water to cross to get to Strawberry.

Got 16 decent kokes - better fishing than the day before.

Aircraft were picking water up yesterday and today from Soldier creek and Starvation for the fire.

Here is a link to the Dollar Ridge Fire info. It looks like the fire has crossed at least part of Timber Canyon.
