Huntington Reservoir along with a lot of other folks
#1
Okay, call me crazy for going fishing on a holiday, that goes against everything us old retires believe in, but I don't get a chance to fish with my son and one of my grandsons very often so I couldn't miss it.

We launched near the middle of the reservoir in our tubes about 7:30. There were already a couple of boats and a few shore fishermen. We all used fly tackle with sinking lines and size 6-10 bead head buggers and soft hackles in black/orange, black/green, and brown/tan. Most of the fish were caught in 18' - 35' FOW, well away from shore. There were some fish feeding on the surface early but there were also a lot of fish that were hanging near the bottom. We were all using faster sinking lines and picking up the fish near the bottom. We were off the water by 1:30 when the wind started to pick up.

The water temperature was 61-63 degrees and the visibility in the water of about 10'-12'. The reservoir is 77% full and dropping.

We all managed to catch some fish, all tiger trout from 10" to 18" long and in good shape. We saw some of the folks in boats catching some fish trolling with pop gear and a couple of tubers dragging worms caught some also. We did not see a shore angler bring in a fish.

We all caught some fish and it was a beautiful day with very little wind, and the fish didn't seem to mind the crowd.[Wink]

Looks like a good time was had by all. I see a sinking or intermediate line on the rod in that one shot... You guys slow trolling or casting & stripping?

The line you see is actually an eight sink rate (AirFlo Sixth Sense). It has portions of the light orange to let you know how much line you have out.

For the most part we were slow trolling, and caught the most fish that way, but we did some casting, sinking, and then stripping and caught a few that way too.
