Boulder Mountain Fishing
#1
I am thinking about a trip to the Boulder Mountains in August for some Tiger and Brookie fishing. Having never even been on the mountains, I am hoping someone can steer me to a good spot or two. Any help much appreciated.

If you don't get a lot of responses, don't be discouraged. A lot of people on here avoid naming specific places because that can draw too many people to certain sensitive waters. It isn't that they want to hog it to themselves (although I'm sure that is a factor too) but they don't want a particular place hammered and ruined for everybody.

I'm sure you'll get some good responses but doing some more research on your own can be very enlightening. Call the DWR. Check the stocking reports. Search on Google. Search this forum to see what info has been posted in the past. Call the Forest Service and ask for a fisheries biologist. Etc.

Good luck with your search and may the fish be with you.

P.S. I'd gladly share some specifics because that's just the way I am. But I don't know much--I've only hunted there.

The older I get the more I would rather be considered a good man than a good fisherman.

Thanks catchinon. I have done a bit of research and willing to share as it may help others. The attached is the DWR management plan telling about management objectives for each lake, which is a good starting point. I look forward to exploring the lakes and catching a few fish.

Thanks for sharing that. I think part of the fun will be exploring and building your own unique body of knowledge. I sure hope that someday I can take a trip down there. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Now that you've had some time to peruse the flyer -- do you have any specific questions on specific areas?

What lakes peaked your interest?
What area are you considering exploring?
What roads are you curious about?

We can help a whole bunch, but only if we know what you need help with...

Thanks to both of you discussing this topic, I'd love to try a new area like Boulder, I just don't have enough time to do all those fun things I'd like to do... But I have learned that I just need to decide I want to do it bad enough to start working on a plan and I'll make it... For now it's down my priority list a ways so I'm working on other things this year, but one day I hope to try the area... I'm hoping to sneak in a Uinta trip this summer in addition to the Wind River trip, but my summer is running out too quickly and I have too many other things planned for those precious weekends... I mean only six more left before the summer is wrapped up and with family commitments and all, there aren't a lot of days left.... So get those plans made quick so you don't miss them this year... Good luck... J
