Curious if anyone could direct me where the best parking for a two wheel drive vehicle is around mantua. I have always parked in the parking area with the restrooms and stairs but that area is often full.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With the road closures and only 2 wheel dr, parking on the west side is your best option in my opinion. Try to get there early or hope that someone is coming off the lake early

There are two parking areas below the dike, one is by the restroom and just to the North where folks park the boat trailers during open water season but there is another one even farther to the North. Are you saying all of those areas are full? I've never seen them all full but then I usually get there pretty early. There are two other parking areas but from the sounds of it they are not going to allow people to park there until after this pipeline is complete. Once construction is complete one of them is on the East side of the lake by the personal watercraft launch, the other is on the SE side of the lake by the inlet.

[#800000]Here is a map of the available parking on the west side of Mantua Reservoir. The top area is in front of the City Office Building. The middle area is where vehicles with trailers park. And the bottom area is the one you mention next to the restrooms. For the most part, these three areas are plowed in the winter and you should be able to use them in your car.

[#800000]The PWC launch on the Northeast corner is not an option at all. It is a dirt road to it and for the past 3 years, there has been a snow berm blocking entrance to the road at the last house going east. Cant even get a 4-whell drive truck down it anymore. And the road to the Southeast corner by the inlet is closed until the pipeline project is completed.[/#800000]

[#800000]So as Curt said, if you want to park in the restroom lot, get there early. Otherwise you will have a longer walk to the other two parking areas north of that lot.[/#800000]

Just to add to this: If you're planning on fishing during the weekend, especially a Saturday, be prepared to see all parking lots full. That place is a zoo on weekends, and even going to be worse now that you can't park along the south road.

I went to mantua this afternoon. There is almost no parking. Maybe a dozen spots not occupied by equipment at the bathroom. Most of the boat trailer parking was taken up by equipment also. As I parked in an open spot at the restroom I had the pleasure of having one of the Witaker guys yell profanities at me for 5 minutes while he waited for his coworker to unload his trailer for being “a dumb F for being there” and that I should “get an F-ing job”. That was a real joy. I imagine he was frustrated with vehicles being in his way or maybe he was frustrated that others were fishing while he was stuck working but probably not the best PR move. Anyway be aware there is almost no parking.

Wow, he was way out of line. It looks like it may only get worse. Anyway, how was the fishing? Is the ice any thicker than it was last weekend? Would you consider it thick enough for the general public?

I wouldn’t say it’s thick enough for the general public a little under 3” where I was and saw several suspicions looking wet spots. With parking the way it is I doubt I’ll go back. Fishing ok for a few small perch.
