Went there yesterday. Ice and edges were great still. Edges are getting softer but no plank was needed to get on/off at the beach area. Looked like machines had still been on it over the weekend as you could see there tracks in the 1" snow layer on top of the ice. No slush.
If it was me I'd take a plank just in case and if you're lucky you won't need it. [signature]

Thanks, did you do any goo on the perch? With colder temps coming maybe it will get firmer.

I was there Monday, closer to the dam. Good ice was maybe 8 inches under frozen slush. I fished in ~30 feet over several holes. Perch were biting for a couple of hours and then shut off. I caught about a dozen perch with the largest at about 9 inches. I might have done better, but I got to the lake without checking my bait situation carefully. I had healthy spikes, dried out wax worms, and about a 2 inch piece of crawler in the carton.. I have never had a hit on spikes at Hyrum. I did get hits on the worm, and eventually hooked a fish and used perch eyes after that point with some success. The bites were very light.

Me and a buddy caught about 80 perch each in 20-37 fow with 78/80 being 6"+/-1". Did manage a couple 10"ers, had to do "a little" weeding through to get em. Lol! They were shallower earlier in the day & moved out later. Meal worm got the first 10 or so till they cleaned the hook off then perch meat the rest of the day. Buddy had a good laugh catching a dozen or so of them with a tungsten & no bait. Couple small trout came up with the perch & a couple better ones were caught in the top 10 fow on crawlers.
We tried the inlet for a couple hours & caught one little brown trout. Be careful back there. It was noticeably thinner/softer than around the rest of the lake. [signature]

Poured rain all night long , about 5am started a pure slush snow- just pushed about 2" off driveway and it was a wall of water.

Hard to say for sure, but it looks like some of the edge might have opened with the influx of water.
You can always look at the surface of the lake on the Hyrum Dam Cam. http://hyrumdamcam.com/ [signature]

Was anyone able to get out on Hyrum today? I got an unexpected duty for tomorrow... I guess my FIL has been driving everyone crazy enough around the house that I was told I can go fishing if I'll take him... So my question is, he is pretty disabled and I'll have to pull him in a sled to get him on the pond. Will that be doable with the edges after the recent warm and storms? Would appreciate any intel you wouldn't mind sharing... I don't think I can get him across a plank, but I have been known to back my truck down the boat ramp till I hit the ice and unloaded him direct to the ice and then waded on and off myself... Do you think something like that might be the best idea to try?? Thanks Jeff

Jeff,
I don't want to pour cold water on your plans but reading your post it seems to me it might not be a good idea to take a fishermen out on sketchy ice if he has such limited capability for self rescue if something were to happen. It might be wiser to find a water with better and safer ice conditions even if it meant traveling a little farther. Just my 2 cents worth. Based on a long period of personal and professional experience. Mike [signature]

Mike I agree if the conditions are not safe, there's no way I'd want to get him into trouble out there... My thoughts are, that the main ice is still good and we'll just need to get onto it... If that isn't the case we'll steer way clear of it and go see a show or something... I think I can check it out and hopefully decide quick whether it's safe enough or not... Hope it's good, but if not I wasn't planning on going fishing this weekend anyway... Thanks for your concern... Jeff

You might be able to try the Bear River. It has areas where a person could fish out of their truck out by the BRbird refuse.

Good fishing to all. Hue

Thanks Burley we'll keep that in mind... But I'll have to change gear, my little ice rods look pretty wimpy when compared to a cat... Thanks Jeff

I know that you have safety in mind but a big dose of caution should be used ! We all think we can get away with a little danger, much better "safe than sorry".

Fished Hyrum for about 2 hr from 1 pm.[reply][/reply] Edge was soft and needs a plank. Ice is still fishable, ca 4 in couldy above ca. 7-8 in clear ice.
This season is nearly done....... Only caught small bows and perches. [signature]

We went and gave it a go, but I did check everything out really well before I took Rich out. We had about 13” of ice where we set up. Had some great company and caught a few fish. Rich got a 18” bow that he was pretty proud of. So I’m glad we got him out there today. Got off safe and that was probably my last trip there this year. Things were getting soft when we left so I don’t expect it to last too much longer. I think the conditions were better than had been reported so it turned out ok. Thanks for your concern. Later Jeff
