Mantua Fishing Report
#1
The cowboy-pirate crew invaded Mantua this afternoon to check ice conditions and see if any water creatures wanted to play. Crawdads were starting to roam - always a good sign. Ice is nearly off. The remaining sheet(s) is/are floating with the wind - boaters beware. We were able to get Buckwheat's wheelchair to the water using the boat ramp and a little muscle through the sand. We watched a family fill up a full stringer of ice off rainbows - so we joined in the fun, Tried shinny steel and plastic - nothing. Switched over to worm and jigs - nothing. Finally had to break out the powerbait. Action was steady but not fast. Still a fun afternoon. Also took a peek at Hyrum. Did not catch anything. Other anglers reported it as slow as did the local fish cop (who was very nice)

Shot a short video of the action, if you are bored, you can find it at this youtube link (dont worry we dont sell anything - pirates dont need to sell stuff)

Hmmmm....... I tried to fish on that beach area once with my wheelchair kid, and got kicked off. I was told to fish from the access docks, for which conditions were bad......no fish.

Springbuck. Ya they are sensitive to fishing on the sandy beach. The docks were not in, yet, so choices were limited for a wheelchair. We ended up pushing him the rest of the way through the sand, once I caught my breath, and up to the edge of the rocks. Fish habitat was much better there. I need to get some fatter tires for those conditions. I think next time I would go to the north access and cast him from the top of the dike. Would need someone at the bottom to do the netting, but I think it could work. I still find myself packing a lawn chair to the edge and muscling him to it over my shoulders. I should video that technique. That is why I started a YouTube channel, to try to show places and ways to get disabled or challenged out. It's a battle but worth it. My wife has MS, too. So maybe I will get to pack them both. Good thing i am still 20.

You're a good man... I'm sure they will appreciate what you're doing for them, more than you'll ever know... Way to take good care of them and let them find some joy in the beautiful place we live in.. I'm sure it is difficult for you, but I'm glad there are people like you that think of others more than themselves... Thanks J

Txs Skunkedagain. It certainly adds some perspective to life, but in fairness I get to go fishing along with other adventures so I win too. I am trying to set up a run out to Blue lake, out near Wendover, Thur. It's been on my list for a while. If the weather plays nice...maybe a largemouth will greet me there.

Tried Mantua today. Great day to be outside.

Drove to the back side. Not sure what they are doing but it looks like there is some construction going on.

The fishing was OK, caught 2 trout and a LMB which was a surprise.
