Flotilla report
#1
So our day started in Benjamin slough trying to pick up a carp for bait or a willing kitty. Neither was happening so we headed to the island. We fished the east side as the north side was filled with boats. We tried a couple spots but nothing. So we pulled anchor and headed toward mud bay. We started hitting weed lines in the outer edges and I literally cast it in ones mouth. It hit the water and and I was reeling in to place it a couple feet closer and line was tight. It got halfway to boat but my drag was to tight and it got off. Boy was I mad at myself. But after some time of nothing we found a cove of weeds where we had 45 minutes lefts til we had to be back to the lunch. After 10 minutes I got my first to the boat. Then my son got one then Jim got one. So the skunk was gone for us all. When the time to leave came Jim went to reel in and his line went tight and he fought another one. None were to big all 22-24” with my sons being the biggest. Which we forgot to get a picture of for the contest dumb us. But we got 4 to the boat and had a good time. Thanks to ice sled and his wife for cooking, Craig and Jeff for the awards, tubedude for the demo and everyone for participating to make it worth coming out.

Hey Justin it was nice to see you and you son, glad you got some tugs. We didn’t do so well and settled for two white bass, but it was my first so I was glad to get another species under my belt. Thank Devon for his help. Later Jeff

Great meeting you guys. Utah Lake has always been good to me. I think i did better than anyone else. I got out to LB Friday at noon to find I left my shrimp in my motel room in Lehi. But I had my night crawlers so I headed out to the south flats. I put a worm on and while I was getting my other poles ready I caught a 20 lb..carp. So with fresh carp meat I moved right down to the edge of the weeds and found the cats. I was in two feet of water casting right to the weed edge with a bobber set at two feet. I caught five nice cats released them. And lost most my bobbers. So I quit fishing and went back to Lehi to get more bobbers.
So Saturday morning I went right back to the same spot and by ten in the morning I had landed 10 nice cats, my biggest being around 15 pounds. But I didn't have a tape measure to measure anything. I kept 6 of the smaller ones and through the big ones back. I use half a night crawler threaded on up on to the line and then the carp. I did catch one on shrimp, but not until I added Mike's shrimp scent to it.
I have had so much fun at Lincoln Beach through the years and wanted to help with the clean up. But Utah Lake has always gave me more than I could ever give back and will always be my favorite place to fish.

Thanks Justin, it was fun to get together and glad you guys have a good hook up down there with Jim... Did you have trouble with your boat? or just wanted to join Jim? Although I'm sure it's a lot nicer on that big pontoon to have room to spread out and fish without tangling up with each other... Glad you guys came and it was fun to see your home pond... See ya at the fall event... Jeff

We just wanted the room of the pontoon since we were going to be out for so long. With my back it allows me to pace around and give me relief. One day I’ll be rich and buy my own pontoon. But as far as my boat it should be ok with the carb rebuild it ran the other day great.

It was great meeting you. Glad you had success I saw your pics on tin cans report those were some nice cats. I hope you enjoy your boat and you get out and use it often. They can be a headache but can also be so much fun. Take care.

I knew you were a good guy when you offer to let me camp in your yard. It was good to meet you. I bet you are proud of that son of yours. Don't be afraid to get right up close to those weeds. I seen where you and Jim were trying, you were way far from the edge of t h e weeds. It is two feet of water water way into the weeds. And the cats are in there. The further east you go t h e clearer the water got. Around Lincoln Beach it was chocolate colored.
And I know what a pain boats can be sometime. I've had several through the years. I had a nice 20' pontoon boat that I sold when I got divorced a few years ago. I was going to move to Tulum, Mexico. Lol

Oh now I reread your first post. You and Jim were just trying for a carp when I seen you. That's what I did Friday. But I hooked up fast to a 20 lb carp.

Great report Randy, wow, a 15 lb cat, that should have been worth a pic at least.
