Wonderful Willard Thursday
#1
Caught 5 different species today, 7 Eyes, 2 Wipers, 2 Cats, a Crappie, and a Perch. Returned 1 Eye, the Wipers, The Cats, and the Crappy. Of significance, I caught all but one fish in the same area. I mark every fish I catch. The marks were on top of one another. Whatever they were eating, they all were eating it in the same spot. As curt said in an earlier post, if you like what you're catching, return to the same spot to catch more, Thanks Curt. All were caught trolling 2.5 -3.oo mph. The Wipers, were caught pulling a chart-rues blade on leaded line. Thanks again Curt for turning me on to this.
Here is a pic of the Eyes and Perch.

Nice job ZB, glad you got out fishing instead of cleaning the boat ramps. I will be going out tomorrow and I hope this cold front doesn't shut them down. Those are some nice looking walleye's and what size was the crappie you released?

Hi Mike, small, I didn’t measure but I’m guessing about 10 inches. Thanks again to you for cleaning the boat ramps too. I imagine tomorrow they will be a mess again, thanks to this cold front. Really blew out of the north this evening. It is supposed to be cold in the a.m., like in the 40s.
I may see you out there, if it is not too windy and cold. Good luck in any event.

[#800000][font "Comic Sans MS"][size 3]It was 35 at my house in Hooper at 5:30 AM today. Brrrrr! It's gotta be that or colder at Willard this AM. Good luck today.

It would be good to examine the stomach content. I caught three Thursday morning. The stomachs were empty.?

Yes, I have found the same. I have also noticed the fish have become long and lean, not near as plump as earlier.
I think they are really hungry now.
On that note, I had a funny experience yesterday. My rod with the planer board looked slightly different. I watched for some time. Then I noticed a skimmer, something small on the line. I pulled him until it was time to take the planer board off.I took it off and all of a sudden my rod just about got pulled overboard, ended up landing a 20 inch Cat! I think I know what was in his stomach after that.
I think they are all hungry right now, I'm guessing that will change when the shad do their thing.
Great thought, have a great day.

Last week the cats we caught had stomachs full of carp eggs. Caught them up in the rocks. There still may be some carp dropping eggs in the rocks.

Interesting, carp eggs, who would a thunk? I did a 10-2 pm Friday. I went to the same spot as Thursday, lots of fish but no biters to speak of.
2 small wipers. Looking at the fish cleaning, others did much better.
