Deer Creek and wiper questions
#1
Hey I was just wondering if anyone that has been to deer creek in the last few days could give me an account of the water visibility? Also on another note, I am curious, doe wiper and white bass form boils like stripers do?

Fished Deer Creek Sunday morning from my float tube up by Charleston.
Visibility was less than four feet. Still pretty murky. Fishing continues to be way slow.

See Doitall5000s post for wiper boils.

The older I get the more I would rather be considered a good man than a good fisherman.

Wipers definitely form boils like the stripers, but every year is different. Some years there are many large boils and other years fewer and smaller boils. I have never heard of white bass doing boils (perhaps in other states where they grow larger). I once experienced a nice boil of tiger trout on Huntington Reservoir.

Pisco has been reporting that he's caught white bass out of "slurps" but I think they're just taking midges off the surface. Problem is there aren't really schools of forage fish the bass can drive to the surface.

Any predatory fish will create boils at one point or another.

Many years ago at LK Powel, we found a huge boil going on (Pre Stripers for sure). We tossed lures into it to get monster Bluegills.

In Idaho some years ago I found a boil in a small lake. I just had my float tube and a fly rod that day with some small poppers. It was crappie. Fun fishing while it lasted.

In Louisiana we would find LMB boiling on shad frequently. Seldom got big bass from the schoolies, but plenty of them.

Also in Louisiana, we found boils in the gulf, and they were speckled trout taking schools of shrimp. Boat loading days they were.

Yes, have seen trout boiling as well. Several times I have caught rainbows boiling on perch minnows at Magic Res. in Idaho. Some of my largest bows.
