Walleye on fly
#1
Well, today I outsmarted a few fish on Deer Creek from my float tube on my fly rod. With some advice from gofish435 I caught my first walleye on a fly. Using full sinking fly line and a bead headed streamer I caught two smallies, a rainbow trout, and two walleyes that could pass for twins. Not trophy size, but a trophy in my book. I was in my float tube on the Charleston side of Deer Creek.

Hey, Gabe

Thanks for the report and photo.

I'm not sure how you caught that fish, I don't see the fly rod anywhere.[Wink]

I'm glad you were able to fool a couple of walleye even with all the holiday crowd.

Great job !! Im headed up there next week looking for those peskie walleye. Was able to get them last year just been waiting for warm water. So did you check the water temperature? Looking for 70's.
How deep was the water you were in?
Thanks for posting

Surface water temp was 66. I was working about 18 ft of water. My experience for Deer Creek eyes is that they will soon be leaving the Charleston end in search of deeper depths.

Hay freakyfisherman maybe this year could be a little different , this year water is so high.
You can flip your profile photo, click on it and do an edit. A little hard to find, I had to do the same thing.
Can I launch my aluminum boat at Charleston bridge.?

I dont know if you have seen the Charleston access lately, but the parks people removed the concrete barriers and put in a series of posts. Some look wide enough apart to launch a small boat.
