I ran my Water Wolf camera for a while on Friday while trolling Soldier Creek. The bite was pretty slow all day, but it definitely was not because the fish weren't there. I could see them on the finder but getting them to actually bite was pretty difficult. They would follow the lure -- sometimes for a minute or two -- and then just peel off and leave.
I've attached several frames from the video. If I have time I'll edit some of the video and post it later.
Yes, I know the YEAR stamp is wrong on the video.

We caught more cutts than usual -- and boated maybe 6-8 Kokanee on Friday.

So, this is what I was told by DNR biologist yesterday.
The lake has been more productive than usual for the food that Kokanee need. They are fat and sassy and are not as hungry as usual and therefore are not as aggressive as usual. Yes, I asked the question, but they strike out of aggression, not hunger. He responded by saying that when they have an abundance of food, they are not as aggressive to chase off intruders in there food zone. Makes sense to me.
The fish are there, they just are not hungry and aggressive.

We only fished for a couple of hours this morning and it was slow for us as well. We only landed 3 kokes but we had to leave early.
Hope this means they will increase the stocking numbers!

No need to start a new thread -- just adding on again, as my wife and I hit Strawberry again this morning, to almost 12:30....Still Slow ......dang...thought maybe we could tease up a few more, but only 2 kokes for our efforts, and the usual dozen or so cutts....nice weather though, no wind at all 'til we were getting off water....we went North, we went East, we crossed through the openness....and I'm sure we were 'seeing ' kokes, but like others have noted, they probably have no reason to be aggressive toward our presentations.....maybe time for Jordy....Guluk

Interesting... this year was a big water year, and I'm sure that was a good thing for all the fish in Strawberry.
I wondered as well if this year was a little bit down from the low water year two years ago.... as these fish are 2-4 yr fish...... I wondered if the lowered success this year for some was not because of weak reproduction a couple years back....
From your visit with DNR, it sounds like it's more of the abundance of food this year.....
