A buddy and I fished Cleveland Reservoir today from our tubes. We hadn't been there since August 20th when it was 54% full so we thought it was a good idea to go back while there is still some water in it.
We launched at 9:00 and fished until 3:00 using fly tackle. We used fast sinking lines and size 8 bead head leeches, crystal buggers, and flying ant patterns. We picked up a couple of cutthroats 17" and 19" and the rest were rainbows from 13" to 17" long. Most of the fish came from 8' -15' of water while stripping the fly up from the bottom. The best fishing was in the afternoon, we picked up about half our fish after 2:00.
The water temperature was 52-54 degrees and the visibility in the water was about 4'. The reservoir level is 23% full and still dropping. The deepest water we found was 18' deep. It is that time of year when you want to make sure that your fins are on good and tight or you could lose one in the muck.
There were just over a dozen shore anglers and I did see some of them catch fish also. We were the only ones on the water today.
This has been such a poor water year that all of the reservoirs on the Manti are dangerously low, except Electric Lake. Miller Flat 23%, Huntington (Mammoth) 33%, Cleveland 23%, Millsite 19%.
We need a big snow year for sure!
