What part of the lake was the guy on(Provo River arm, Hailstone, other)? I was at Hailstone last week and there was about a foot of clear ice. The edges were solid as well. This was on Friday that I went.

How is that any different from keeping ice spikes around your neck, rope or any other ice fishing safty equipment. Someone on this site also talked before about taking a tube out with him,JUST IN CASE[]. I don't think theres anything wrong with that. I'm confident that guy would be at the bottom of the lake from hypothermia if he didn't were those waders or wet suit.

Ice fisherman constantly wear waders to keep them dry and your right saftey gear is a good thing no doubt. It just sounded to me that wearing a wet suit this person was expecting to go through the ice! And he did.

Ok, I have to speak up. That ice is perfectly safe as of sunday. We went and nailed the perch incessantly and a few giant rainbows too. The only problem spots were two big holes where it looks as if someone sunk an atv or 4 by 4 truck into earlier in the year. If you stay away from that it's fine. Maybe this guy was curious and wanted to re-create the underwater dive shown by Doug Miller on Strawberry. Not sure what happened but that ice is THICK.

[cool]That's really strange, 'cause when I was there on Saturday at about 8 in the a.m. it was fairly cold and there was a hard crust of frozen slush on the ice, and there was like over a foot of clear ice. When I left at 2, it was nice and warm, but there was only like an inch or two of slush. I was thinking of going ice fishing one last time there this saturday, BUT NOT NOW!
Maybe I'll go to Strawberry one last time and rent an auger. [signature] |
