Ice Breaker 2024
#1
I made my first ice trip this season with my buddy Juma, we started at Butterfly Lake where we caught a bunch of Rainbows and Tiger Trout then moved to Trial Lake where we caught Tigers, Rainbows and Brook Trout. The fish today were all small under 14” and the bite was extremely light. I struggled to put the hook to the ever present fish on the screen in the 10-15 mph wind, probably would have had a better hook up ratio if we set up a shelter. At Butterfly we fished 5-7’ of water and at Lost Lake 10’ water. There was almost always fish on our screen just hard to hook, I only caught a couple dozen and Juma did better catching about three dozen. This was my first time ice fishing the Uintas, sure is pretty up there. The roads are totally clear for now but we will see after the weather moves in. I used my favorite white with red flake Maniac Gizzla tipped with meal worm and Juma used a pink shrimpo jig with meal worm. There was 5-6” of solid clear ice with several inches of snow on top at both lakes.

Good report. Hard to believe this was your first time to ice fish up there. I guess you're normally kicking off the season a bit further north. Cant blame ya for that. Tell Juma howdy from me.

Juma got on a tear for a few minutes at butterfly lake so I would say he did with his pink jig.

Anybody have fresh report if you can still drive to these lakes?
Or preferably Mill Hollow?
Going under the knife Dec 16 and NEED a fish through the ice to keep me motivated for ‘25-26’ season hopefully.
P.S. Just barely put the Showdown on battery charger in case roads are open!

I don’t know about the Uintas but people where fishing the dam arm of Scofield over the weekend. I would bet that Huntington/mamoth is locked up and ready to fish as well.

UDOT has a traffic cam at Bald Mountain pass and the roads look clear. But I am not sure if the gate is still open at Soap stone. Might give the Kamas ranger station a call. In the past couple days I have seen reports for Trial lake on Instagram so I assume its open. Cant give a report for Mill Hollow.
