The Grinch Stole a Post
#1
Maybe I’m missing something but I swear there was a Willard post on this page last night and this morning.  Great post and congrats to anglers….but really remove a post.    Why???  Kinda a Grinchy move IMHO.

I saw the post. It had a picture with a guy with about 15-20 really nice perch out of Willard Bay last week. He said he wasn't sure how long the bite would last but they tore it up pretty good.

Well mystery solved I received a PM from OP.  Explained the post was accidentally posted on public forum and he moved to the premium side of the forum where only those members can see post.  Pretty damn Sad.

I bump into BFT folks (admins) and they complain about no one posting and how FaceBook is ruining BFT.  These are the same individuals who will ask how deep were ya fishing what color lures, how fast etc etc.

So there ya go.  Can’t share any info for others for fear of burning bridges.  Again pretty damn Sad and shame, shame, shame if folks feel brow beat they can’t post a detailed report and only post it in this premium BFT section.  Shameful!! So the public side of BFT is for just us commoners.

Finally the limit on Willard Perch will be15 in 2025 just so ya know

Shane, I did see your PM. Nice pictures ??

I feel the same way, I’m a seasonal fishermen only (boat fish the gorge only) and was part of the exclusive cult premium side for a little while but I didn’t post enough useless posts such as “good report”  “kuddos” etc and was banished back to the peasant side of BFT.

It’s  a shame because this site used to be amazing when I was first getting into koke fishing years ago, and is much less trafficed now.

I was the original poster of the report that was moved, I mistakenly posted it on the public forum and when I realized what I had done I moved it to the premium board. Each of us as anglers like to share with others to varying degrees, I am typically very willing to report and share where, how and when I catch fish. The caveat to that is, when other anglers turn me on to a particular bite and ask me to not report it to a public forum I respect there wishes. The public forums have a lot of people who only want information with out also contributing to the forum which makes some people not as willing to share. The premium board has a pretty low bar to join and maintain membership in, hopefully jjanie the moderator of the premium board will post the rules for the premium board in a response in this string. I can tell you that most of the people posting on the premium board are also on the public forum as well and what gets talked about there eventually makes it out to the world on BFT and other social media sites and even television. I have made a lot of great friends through this board and have taken many people that I met on this site and other social media groups in my boat and shared my knowledge with them freely. My intent was not to keep a hot bite to myself. If anyone takes the time to send me a personal message I will respond and answer questions about any fishery I have knowledge of without holding any details back. Responses and traffic are what keep this site going and I want to encourage people to be as active as possible, I fear that one day I will go to log on and get a broken link message and it will be gone. I have a pretty substantial group of anglers who I interact with outside of this forum, but without it I would have likely not met them. I want anglers of every level to have the opportunity to make the same kind of connections I have. I hope that something good can come out of my mistake, it has at least started a conversation and possibly encourage more people to join the premium board that requires folks to minimally contribute. I am sorry for the confusion my actions caused, and please reach out with your questions, I love talking about fishing and helping others find success.

Thank you for the explanation in the public setting. We too have learned when folks provide info and ask to keep it lowkey and not public we do. Best way is to not provide info don’t post anything as once it’s posted no matter in a private site it’s not longer private that’s just my thoughts.

Exactly the same for me. That is why I seldom post at all anymore, after 30 years as a member.  It is what the elites wanted.  Yes, Facebook Utah fishing pages are better and more specific and friendlier to people that for their own reasons can't get out enough to be "elite". There isn't even a link or indication of there being an "Elite" page on the Utah page, that I can see.

Clearly you are missing something, as users on a public forum we each have the right to remove our own material.
Your assertion that someone other that the creator of the post removed it turned out to be baseless and incorrect which reflected negatively on the moderators and is not good for the site..

"Yes, Facebook Utah fishing pages are better and more specific and friendlier to people that for their own reasons can't get out enough to be "elite"."

You have definitely found different, "...Facebook Utah fishing pages..." than I have ever found. "friendlier" isn't close to the word that I would use to describe any of those Facebook forums.

Fished more with them than I have with you and we have associated for 30 years.  I remember friendly BFT. Utah lake get together s, Willard days, cook outs...
There is a lot of private messaging going on behind the scenes.  That is where invites and the nitty gritty information is exchanged.

Now as far as Obi-wan moving his post, I don't know of anyone on this site that has taken more people on their boat, taught more people how to run their electronics and catch fish from perch to Kokanees from Willard to the Gorge and although I have not been a receiver of his generosity, he has carte blanch to do as he pleases concerning posts in my book.  I was disappointed as well to see it moved.  I went to show my son the pic and it was gone. They were huge.
K-2 as well.  Probably the best Musky fisher in Utah, Kent probably the best Sturgeon fisher and Tube, well just the best I have ever met.

Maybe it's time to re-evaluate the elite section of the Utah board of BFT. Loosen the requirements some and still visible to registered members only.

Have merry Christmas everyone.

I would go one step further.  Maybe it's time to close down the elite section of the Utah board of BFT.  When it was first discussed, I was one of the most vocal members saying it was a bad idea.  It was presented with the explanation that there were several long-time members who had quit posting on BFT, because everyone, including those who had never signed up, could read their posts.  We were told that many of them would post again if there was a private forum.  I can't think of a single member, who had quit posting, who began posting on the new private forum.  Over the years, it has continued to create hard feelings between members that I feel has far exceeded whatever benefits it has provided.  Merry Christmas to all.
