Echo, Rockport, Jordy ice report
#1
Did my annual 100-mile pre-season drive-by this morning......Echo --- 14 deg when I arrived at 10am; 99% capped, but only 1/2" at the ramp; dam looks thicker & grayer, but I was too old and rocks too steep to walk down for a test drill.  Rockport --- 95% capped, with wide swath of open water running E-W between ramp & highway; shoreline test drill 1"; like Echo, dam area full of gray ice about 100' out.  Jordy --- two boats out on the wide open water tells it all.  Hoping for more single-digit over-nite temps this week.

I was one of the boats on Jordanelle and Liketrolling (Robert) was the other. Air temp at launch was 10*, surface water temp was 35* and there was some ice crystals forming on top in some areas. Not sure if Jordy will cap on the north end or not, guess it depends on the coming temps. I do not think the south end will cap this year - it did not last year.
3 decent kokes today and some nice rainbows.

believe it or not...I saw someone on the ice at Rockcliff Friday.
Don't think I'd trust it, even if it's only 4' of water (if that)

Think Jordanelle will stay open for boats in a week? Looking to go out next weekend.

Mike,
Other than missing out on Goose hunting maybe I did pick the right winter to get my knee replaced!

The north side (out of the main ramp) could possibly ice up if it stays real cold but even if the north side does ice up, you can launch from the personal watercraft ramp on the south side. I do not think that side will ice up at all - that side did not ice up at all last year. I like the main launch so I go there and look first.

There are also really good webcams at Jordanelle so you can see what the ramp situation is before driving up there. Like Brookie said, most years you can launch at the PWC ramp even if the main ices up. Here's the link to the web cams:

Deer Creek and Jordanelle still open water. Rockport capped and a couple of brave souls were out on the ice fishing.
