Rockport repeat
#1
Returned to the scene of the crime and yanked 'em once again at the dam today, fishing from 10am-noonish.  Tried deeper this time, starting out at 54', then moving to 44', and finally 35'.  Perch are everywhere and hitting everything, even biting a bare tungsten jighead.  Drop down, bottom out, set the hook, reel up, rinse & repeat.  Only a magician could have handled two rods.  Still, nothing over 10".  Packed up & drove down to that last restroom on the S end, walking out to see how those parties were doing ---ditto re: perch, tho some smaller, but they were getting some trout, fishing from 10-30'.  From what I could see, nearly 20 groups out on the ice today.  Nice to put some faces on BearLakeFishGuy and some other BFTers.  Hopefully everyone taking home a limit, or it's gonna be Stuntedville in a few years.

Sure sounds like a fun time. How thick was the ice?

Ice was about 5" near the dam. Perchinski summed it up perfectly as far as action goes. I fished 27' and never moved. I attempted 2 rods but it was impossible.

Yessir!  It sure was.  I was the fellow you walked past right before you got to your hole at the dam.  My hole was at 36 ft and it was crazy to see what was happening on the fishfinder.  It was a pretty quick fillet quota and since a fair number were suspended in my spot, I could target them and release some smaller ones without barotrauma.  My biggest keeper was 10 7/8.

If I knew it was you, we could have talked Jordanelle bassin.  Wink

Ice thickness was 4 inches at my hole.

Awesome, thanks for the report.  I remember when Rockport had 13 inch perch and then hardly any perch at all.  Close to 10 inches isn't too bad compared to Pineview.

Fished Tuesday at Rockport on the upper end, only 3.5 inches of ice, but all clear solid ice not an issue and by now as other reports are stating ice should be fine . Many cold days ahead so should continue to get thicker. BUT, Always verify before going out if it’s a new area ice often is not uniform. Be safe!
Had to move just a couple times to find them but once you did it was pretty much every drop, with only a couple short lulls when fish would move off for just a few minutes then game on again. Sometimes a move of only 30 feet made a difference. We fished water 26 feet deep and near the bottom for best action. It was easy to let the little ones go, they all swam away easily no trauma. Biggest was 10-7/8 I only wanted to fill et a batch for fish tacos, so I kept 15 all 10” plus. I let go way more than I kept and let lots of fillet size go. We fished from about 10am-3pm . Chilly early pretty nice later when sun was not blocked.
Fun day great fishing. Caught 8 rainbows in the group of us (4). Trout were coming through about 10 feet down, if you reel up to them most of the time they will hit most anything. Hang a small jig tipped with wax worm at 10 feet on second rod and you will likely catch some trout.
I had one school of fish move by at 10 feet I reeled up into but no takers thinking maybe kokanee? Last year a guy next to me caught a 16 inch koke.
Good luck tight lines!
time spent fishing isn't deducted from ones life

Was out there on Tuesday for 2 hours. 50 fish caught with 35 of them harmed. Biggest was just over 10” with most in the 7-9” range. Tricked 1 16” bow into a visit inside the tent. Ice was on the thin side either just under or just over 3” 2 hours of fishing with about 2.5 hours of filleting. 2.8 total pounds of perch meat fillets.

A friend and I were there 1/17. First test hole was 6 inches so we ventured out (west side mid lake). Ice was about 3 inches, a bit less than I prefer, but fishing for perch was super fast. Gave up on two poles and had a limit in no time. Tried for trout with no luck.
