Football Bows at DC 2 8 2025
#1
Had the same idea as Obi, when the edges got soft on the ice lakes...rather that sit at home we took the boat to Deer Creek.

Jon and I got to the main ramp about 8:30. Air was in the low 20's. There was ice and a skiff of snow on the ramp and 1 trailer in the lot. I started sliding a bit as I started turning at the top of the ramp and Jon suggested the island ramp was better than sliding into the lake. He was right! Brookie was also right that the recent big wind had cleared all the ice off the lake.

Go the boat the water about 9 and the water temp was 35. Tossed my favorite clown pattern SnG off the back of the boat while Jon was parking the truck and got a 13" bow. Good sign of things to come and a good sign for the bank tanglers. There were few boats on the lake but lots of folks around the bank.

We fished from the inlet to rainbow bay and found scattered groups of fish all over. It was slower than our late November trip but still very good fishing.

We caught trout from 11 to 18" and most looked like super bowl fans.

They liked clown pattern or blue and silver SnG's at about 1-1.2 mph,  small perch colored cranks at 1.3-1.5 mph. A few also hit tube jigs. All lures were tipped with crawlers.

The weather was beautiful early...

then gradually got windy in the afternoon.

The fish were a bit negative, as indicated by lots of one tap and gone hits and many that pulled off before they got to the boat. We estimated 50 made it to the boat before we left about 4:30.

Jon had family and friends that wanted some trout so we kept 2 limits from 15 to 18 inches.

Great day on the water for mid February and it looks great for another ice trip or two before everything goes soft!

Thanks Jeff! I won't have a catfish report for a while yet. I got tired of always saying I didn't handle the cold well so no ice fishing. I went out a few weeks back and bought an ice shelter. Jon and I did a Rockport trip and had a blast...out of the weather. I will probably stick to cold water fish for a while yet.
