Deer Creek
#1
Fished Deer Creek 04-24-04 with my wife from 3:00 to 6:30 in the afternoon. We trolled minnow baits, mostly in the Wallsberg arm against the north shore from the Wallsberg Creek entry to where the arm turns north. Caught a couple of rainbows, 16 inches long, and one good walleye 22 1/2" at 3lb 10oz. The wind was swirling, and at times there were some pretty strong gusts, but overall, it was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours breaking in a new boat.

Thanks for the report. That is a pretty nice eye. Did it look like a male, or a female?

Looked like a spawned out female to me. We marked fish relating to structure at depths from 10 to 40 feet. I am sure there were a number of smallmouth in the area, and some of those marked fish must have been smallies, but we were primarily trying for the walleyes. This particular female hit a husky jerk in 14 feet of water, trolled at 1.3 mph on 14 lb florocarbon. Typically, I can get to about 8.5 feet depth or so with that setup.

Yup! Traded my Lund in on a Lund! Wouldn't you know it, I just can't get away from the comfort of the full windshield, and being able to sit up a bit higher. Traded up to the 1900 Pro V IFS. It has a 200 hp Yamaha 4 stroke, and an 8 hp four stroke kicker as well. Put my Genesis bow mount troll motor on it, and it works like a charm. The wife is pretty happy with it as well, gives her a little more deck space in the back, and has a place to stow the full enclosure top so we always have it with us and it isn't in the way. Haven't really wrung it out yet, still in the break in period with only a couple of hours on the big motor, but the kicker works great! You need to get home so we can get out and fish for those wiley bass! Nails

The water temp was 52-53 in Wallsberg with 49 on the west side of Charlston. The water level is still down a good 35 + feet, so the Charlston arm is pretty shallow, but atleast there is some water coming in from the Provo and the ramps are in the water. Can't wait till you get back........

We must have just missed you because we left around 3:30 but we were mainly fishing the north west side below the train track. All we got in the boat were some nice rainbows, we did have a couple of eyes on but could not get them up to the boat. The water temp was 48* on that side, so I guess we should have gone to the Wallsberg arm. Thanks for the report and way to go on the nice eye. WH2
