Area 9

Salmon fishing in area 9 opens July 16

Crabbing in area 9 is open 7 days per week.





Area 8.2





Tulalip Special area fishery opened for king salmon fishing on Friday June 18.

Fishing was very slow this past weekend. More of these kings will show as the month progresses.



Season open Friday through Monday noon each week through September.





Crabbing in area 8.2 remains fair to good.

The jetty just out of the Snohomish river mouth is probably the most popular and certainly very productive.

Other good spots include the shoreline from Everett to Mukilteo.

The south and north ends of Hat Island.

The north end of Camano Island is excellent.

Area 10

Salmon fishing opens for catch and keep on Coho July 1

Catch and release fishing is excellent with lots of nice Chinook and some resident Coho.

These resident Coho are ranging from 2 to 3.5Lbs. Most of the fish are being caught on Jeff Head and around the Kingston Area.

Best lures have been Coyote spoons behind Coyote flashers in green.

The fish are running from 50 feet deep, down to 150 feet deep.



Open for crabbing 7 days per week.

Cedar River - June 25th, 2004

The Cedar River is almost as good as it was hyped up to be! The best water for big fish can be found from Highway 18 down to the mouth. Please stop by or call Puget Sound Fly Company at 253-839-4119, if you have any more questions.



Techniques: In addition to having been caught a few times, these fish are gettting pounded by beer enthusiasts in truck tubes. Fish weekdays, early or late. Find deep dark spots well away from the road.
Nymph fishing with a strike indicator is the most productive technique. Look for 4’-8’ of “walking speed” water with some cover.

Streamer fishing is less effective than it was in the begining. Use either a sink tip or sinking leader with a steamer fly and an erratic retrieve.

Dry fly activity is getting better. Stay untill dark and you may get a monster looking for a dry. Look for it to improve in the evenings and mornings, with warmer weather here.



Hatches: The Cedar is surprisingly fertile and has some good insect activity. Currently we are seeing some very good ‘Yellow Sally’ (small tan/yellow stoneflies), Pale Morning Duns, and Caddis. Unfortunately the fish aren’t always looking up during these hatches. Try mornings and evenings.

Skykomish River - June 25th, 2004

Drifted from Ben Howard to Lewis St bridge again last night. Water is coming down and clearing - the river is really in prime fishing shape. One note - the water levels have dropped to the point that we're not taking the drift boat up any longer from High Bridge to Sultan. Inflatables are now the boats of choice through that part of the river. Water clarity is good, we saw Steelies and Kings moving around. It has been tough fishing and we'd recommend the morning bite.

Really low and gin clear. Just about off the ramp. 0 boards at Maxfield ramp. Fishing is slow. Sockeye are starting to show up. A few lingering Springers and some summer-run steelhead are scattered.

Very low and clear water conditions. Fishing has been slow. Retention on hatchery steelhead only.

River is on the rise in the mornings from the hot weather melting the snow and glacier. You just have to find 'em and catch'em. About 15" visibility. Summer kings are through out the river!

Yakima River - June 24th, 2004

RECORDED: 80 ° FISHING: Good
As of this date, the Yakima is flowing at about 2700 cfs, which means that wading access is limited. Plan on fishing from a boat until the cfs drops down to 2200 or less. This doesn't mean the Yak won't fish well, it just means that those of us without boats will have very limited ability to wade and fish easily.

I would plan on fishing large stonefly nymphs and smaller nymphs (such as copper johns, lightning bugs, Morrish Anato-mays and bead head mangy caddis) in tandem. For dries, I would still look for PMD hatches and a good old sparkle dun in size 16 and 18 will suffice here. I would also have some golden stone fly imitations (Paralyzer - 8, Terranasty - 8, and yellow stimulators - 8, 10) and plenty of caddis dries (X-Caddis 14, 16).
