Here's another example of what happens when someone introduces non-native fish to a body of water.

Goldfish Blamed For Bass Decline
GARY, IN—Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials say goldfish-the kind commonly sold in pet stores-are destroying populations of bass and other gamefish in Spectacle Lake, near Gary.
It's not the first time-goldfish wreaked havoc in Spectacle 15 years ago, when biologists attempted a controlled eradication to rid the lake of goldfish. Although the measure worked temporarily, goldfish were reintroduced to the lake, presumably by people releasing pet fish. As a result, goldfish make up approximately 90 percent of the lake's fish population. Biologists say they're destructive to bass because they kick up mud and destroy bass nests. In addition, the goldfish produce large amounts of mucus and can reduce oxygen levels to intolerable levels.

gold fish, (aka Baby carp)
this is the bigger case of uneducated nemo & bambie loving parents with kids who havent the currage to tell the kids the truth. I have seen this more times than I can stand, parrents releasing the pet fish from the aquarium in to the wild. not even realizing what that species can do to a body of water if it takes hold not to mention the contagous virouses that can be born in the tank and released along with the fish.
I have been claiming for years that our watters have been poluted by nest destroying carp who vacume the lake's floor sucking up every thing in its path including incubating fish eggs of native species.

[  ][ ]to thoise goldfish! i aint never heard such a thing. thats somethin! i always figured the bass would eat the smaller fish, and bein the color they ae i thought it would atract the bass to eat emn??? if they were in ponds. >> no. there in the minnow family arent they ??? sucker??? does the mucus act as a defense system to the bass??? i just never figured that.

Sounds like they need to make a slot limit to up the size of bass. That way they'll never get over populated and be a good food source for some huge bass.

well hedgesd, i,d ghave to agree with ya, but if i could git somebody to answer my questions, of why arent they bait to the larger fish, or is it because of the mucus they send off, why they wond,t et em, we could probably understand why there such a problem. to your statement and my question why there not eatin em! seems though they dont produce in that short of time to make that many goldfish to over populate the bass. i understand it,s not good to mix a new breed into the water, but generally a big will eat little. and take care of the problem before the goldfish git that big. there nothin but suckers, family. but i can,t git a answer to my questiohns so we,re left hangin.like it,s not common sence, or i,m makin a point because they just want ot ---about there in there! i dont like bein ignored. do you? i dont know if i dont ask, and when i ask seems though i could git an answer! thank you very much! git me goin!

It's my guess that it does have something to do with the mucus they produce. But that didn't harm my crawdad when I had it in with all the goldfish. The crawdad loved them things! Interesting thing is, he only ate so many of them. He liked the number 5. If there were more than 5 goldfish in there, he'd eat enough to leave just 5. Wouldn't touch any fish when there was 5. Tested this out several times. What they should do is stock this body of water with tons of crawdads!

well thank ya very much fer answerein us. anyways, there is no crawdads in htere??? i dont think there IS a pond or river up here that dont have freshwater crawdads in em. well that,s what they ought ot be doin then.amybe you know more,n what there figureIN. but that,s because your out in nature not behind a desk, ya found out,haahha now tell them, not just me. haha what i cant understand too, people in this line of work, like foresty, enviromental in the waters, that dont fish don,t hunt, have no clue what is really goin on out THERE! ya i,ts good to have book learnin as fer as plants tree,s what they eat, what,ever that ilne,of it, but where the real life is, in nature. they have no clue, THERE STUCK IN BUILDINS BEHIND VCLOSED DOORS, NOT GITTIN OUT THERE to live it, see it,watcyh it, feel it touch it, not till they expierence it, do they know! assumin is like A------------ WE ALL GOT ONE.AHAHHA THEN THEY SCREW IT UP MORE,BY JUST DOIN WHAT THEY THINK SHOULD BE DONE! AND DOIN IT. or by doin nothin at all, DA! which way did he go george?? i cant see bein in some career whithout knowin doin bein what ya live, and not knowin and understandin it. sounds alot like politiacians, ahha dont it?? haha and that boilsdown to the money they git in there paycheck again. cause fer what they do, state employees are paid pretty well, and some know shit bout whats goin on,.or care, and that means every area of the state employees that we pay fer, havin that check they git.,THEY HAVE THE POWER AND CONTROL OVER ----to families, kids, fish and game,--- they have power and control over everythin, in our states, to do what they want with our life, and nature-- what is to be, down the road, and what it is gonna be like, years down the road, hear me??? in all parts of our lives, be it livin wise human ---and animals, it,s who we put in htere, and how they git in there, and what kind of people they are, that git these jobs, to rule govern over us, and our nature and enviroment, and our lives, and what is goin on in our nature, to be able to play god. AND WE ALLOW IT, they should be looked at real good, and find whether there word is as good as they say it is, not sayin somethin=== then doin another. because they do have that power over us. and our enviroment, animals, nature, WHAT,S MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR ENVIROMENTS AND THOSE WHO LIVE THERE, NOTHIN!--- CAUSE IT WILL ALSO EFFECT US TOO.
