Strawberry Cutts 9/08/04
#1
Spent most of the day trolling around the Berry Wednesday to a good news bad news result. The good news is that the fishing was awesome... a fish every 5 minutes, the bad news is that every one of them was a Cutthroat - all in the slot... usually around 19"/20" and a fat 3 - 4 lbs. Boated 30+/- fish and not one Rainbow in the bunch therefore I came home to a cold grill and a empty smoker...

Is anyone having any success finding/catching the Bows... and if so what are your secrets? (if you don't mind sharing)

And is there any word of what next year might hold as to the reg's and the cutthroat slot limits at the Berry? Thanks...

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black]It sounds like you had a great day at the Berry! Of course what we all want to know is what you were catching all those cutts on. I want to get up there and get in on some of that action. I personally don't care about keeping any, so cutts are just fine! Were you using lead core? How deep was the water and how deep were you trolling??? That would help a lot to know where to start. I haven't even been up to the Berry yet this year, but it's time to go! Thanks for sharing.[Smile][/black][/font]

Yeppers. I fished the S/C side last week and caught only bows and plenty of them trolling small stuff from 15'-40'... The small stuff I'm referring to is spinner rig devices like 2ways or smaller red beaded wedding rings. Either rig was tipped with 1/3 of a crawler threaded on the hook until only a 1/4"-1/2" of the crawler hang behind the hook.. Btw, we caught them on both the rigger and leadcore..
I might give em a shot again Saturday or Sunday.....

Sounds like a fun day catching all those fish. Can you give us some details like what they were hitting and how deep (long lining, lead core, or riggers?). What part of the lake..... I'm hoping to get up there soon.

The Cutts are all feeding aggressively in shallower water... I was pulling light tackle (black wooly boogers & Rapala spoons) tipped with worm on a down-rigger only down to 5-7 feet.
I was at the meadows, alone and trying to net with one hand while reeling with the other, kind of a challenge...

anyway good luck
