Friday 11/12/04- Here we go again....hit the water early (5:40 a.m.), headed to Las Vegas Wash to net live shad. Several anglers already tossing nets. I noticed a couple of guides tossing nets also. It seems like live bait fishing is the choice of a lot of fisherman at Lake Mead these days. Filled the livewells quickly, and started drifting near the mouth of Las Vegas Bay. The breeze pushed us quickly, so I tossed out a five gallon bucket on a line to slow us down. Our first drift turned out to be our best of the day. We landed six nice stripers, most around two pounds, one almost four pounds. The other three drifts put five more fish in the box. We also released several small stripers, and a couple of skinny ones. We were back at the ramp by 10:00 a.m. and home around 11:00a.m. A great day!
On our way back we noticed three guides working Las Vegas Bay, two outside of Sand Island on the Lakeshore Road side, one between Saddle Island and Pumphouse Cove. I've heard that bigger fish have been landed in those areas lately by spooning in deep water. One thing is certain: if those guys are in an area it's because they are catching fish!
What a great morning to be out on the water. I can't wait until Sunday to do it again!
