Fiction. That's just the ice expanding and getting thicker. At that temperature, with a foot of ice, you'd probably be safe driving a pickup truck out on it (although I would never try that one).

I wouldn't take off running if I heard that sound. I'd probably be better off staying put and hoping my buckets and portable shelter's sled float in case it does open up where I am. Taking off for shore will more than likely find you a place where you can join the polar bear club while trying to avoid it altogether.

I am going with fiction on this one. I hear that sound all the time when I'm a fishing. Ice is just expanding and has to crack but dosn't mean that it is unsafe

Fiction. Anyone who has been around ice alot knows this one. Heck, this is one of the first things my dad taught me when I was a kid, scared to death as it was popping. Crackin' and talkin' is good. Silent is bad. ABC's of ice fishing 101.

you are correct that these conditions are not the same resuls for rivers, bay and great lake areas.
