Perch in Pineview

Where in the world have they gone (the pineview perch)? 3 years ago I was catching tons there, 2 years ago - NONE, in one trip. I need to get out on that ice so bad it hurts. Saturday is my day. Probably be at Hyrum and will give a report, assuming the ice is okay. Those perch have tappered off too. Lets hope they are like plagues of locusts and come in spurts. Any theories out there? There have been several posts asking the same question about Pineview. Most everyone agrees that the drought is the primary factor in the drop in population of perch and crappie. For now Rockport is the perch hot spot. The ice is new and only 4" thick. A lot of folks including myself have fished there in the past week, but we all caution everyone about the thin ice. Watch for more posts from Rockport to see how the ice is holding up in this warm weather. DKS.

tube dude certainly hit the nail on the head. The low water has hurt the perch's ability to reproduce. Pineview got the worst of it. While we have dealt with a drought in the entire state that has hurt production across the state. Pineview was kept a an unusually low level because of the work on the dam. All the nice little bays that serve as nurseries for perch and crappie were turned into mud flats by early summer. With the construction complete and a good snow pack we should start to see a quick turn around in all the panfish in pineview. A couple of years and it should be very productive again. I don't know which I miss the most. The crappie in the spring or the perch in the winter. I hope both return soon. gshorthair

well i know for a fact that the perch got off a good spawn this year!!! when i was fishing for bass back in middle fork this summer, evertime i whent up there they were everywhere with weeds, the back bays where the moss covered the top was full of milloins of baby perch, millions. we just need some explorers to go up and find the fish!!
