hey chris.. and welcome to the site.. i tryed to get there last weekend but 3 miles from the lake there was snow drifts to high to get my buddys 2 wheel drive truck through.. so we ended up going to millmedows insted..

but i'm sure that if you you can get there and on the ice.. there is many places you can go.. for perch, splake, rainbows, mac's can be found all around the lake.. if it's your first time i would stop in to the loge and take a look at the map they have there..

or you can just hit the ice and start fishing.. try shalow and deep and every thing between tell you find the fish you looking for..

the weed line in the lake is all around the lake in the shalows if you can get on the edge of the weed line you will find that the fishing will be the best for most all the kinds of fish in the lake in that area..

the last two times i have been to fish lake the fish have been more than willing to eat most any jig we droped down to them tipped with perch or chub meat.. white seams to work best but pearl and trout colors worked good as well..

dude on fish?

Fished the north end on the far side last Saturday. Splake and Rainbows were taking paddlebugs (white or green) tipped with mealies. The bite trailed off about 1:30/2:00. This was the first time I've fished there and I was surprised at how deep the lake was so close to shore! We were only 20 yards from shore and the bottow was down 70+ feet. Fish were caught on the bottom and cruising 20-40 ft. On the way back some people on the near side of the north end reported similar success. There were also a few Laketrout taken but I didn't get one.

I also was there on Saturday and the day before. We stayed over night in are camper at Twin Creek. We fish straight crossed the lake below the heart in the mountain, right next the hunter in the woods.

I started out fishing in 10 - 15 feet of water for some perch for bait; we caught one and moved out to 20 and 30 feet of water. Fished there for a while and the bite slowed so I moved out 10 feet at a time until I got to a 100 feet. I was marking fish at 40 to 60 feet. We found that they hit a pink jig every time you placed it in front of them, we had a fish on ever 5 minutes. We fished the same spot both days and finally left after we used all of the peach meat up at 3:00 on Saturday. If I didn't need to leave the mountain to refill the propane tanks on the camper I would have stayed there longer.

My boy out fish me again he caught this fish the first day. He sure was excided.

Most of the fish we caught were between 14 and 16 inches. My advice is start shallow for the perch and move out to deeper water until you find the suspended fish. Give each spot 15 to 30 minutes if now action or its slow move out to deeper water.

Good luck if I had the time I would head back down again this weekend.

Hey FishingWaters...I know the exact spot you are talking about. Spent many hours over the years parked there in the boat or trolling through it. Never tried the ice though. Hey, next time you are out there, if you happen to hook onto a nice, silver Motorolla cell phone, shoot me a PM. It probably won't give you much of a fight and it definately won't taste too good, but maybe if I clean it up the folks at Verizon will give me my money back. I'll tell them that it failed. [Wink]

By the time I came back from the other side everyone fishing the west side was had left. My wife asked a few how they had done; she said they had little success a few fish here and there but not much. I don’t know how deep they were fishing but the same rules would apply start out shallow and move out deeper until you find the fish. I fished straight east of the open water at Twin Creeks on Thursday and Friday night after dinner for a few hours had some success but not as good as the other side. I was fishing in the 70 to 80 feet of water with fish suspend at 20 to 40 feet.

I would look at renting or begging a friend for a snowmobile to get a crossed the lake. I would go back down if I didn’t have so many other things I needed to get done.

I heard they are not letting people take 4-wheelers on the lake because the ice is too thin. Is this true? Does anyone that fished last weekend have information on this? I'm planning a trip on Saturday and would like to take a ride to the far side.

Thanks

I never saw any law enforcement all weekend. All holes I drilled the ice was 18 to 24 inches thick. Most of the groups fishing had some type of machine on the ice. There are some places on the lake that have open water that you need to be careful around.

We fished the west side on Saturday and did very well for perch, splake, and rainbows. We fished in 25 - 45 feet just on the edge of the weed beds or just off of them. The perch were just on the keeper side, the splake ranged from 6" to 18" and the rainbows were all between 12" and 14". A lot of fish though.

I had my snowmobile on the South end of the lake last weekend with no problem. The ice was at least 6 to 8 inches thick, shouldn't be a problem as long as your careful! Fish On!

We had both four wheelers and snowmobiles on the ice from Friday to Sunday and everywhere we went the ice was at least a foot thick.

Hey, Paul, I've been to the east side of Fish Lake over a dozen times and I've never seen the "Hunter in the Woods" before! Where is it, exactly? Sounds like you had a great time as have others and myself who have reported from Fish Lake. Maybe it will stay hot while it gets the "shock and awe" treatment from all the BFTers and others.

It is just below the heart. If the snow melts of the head you will not be able to see the hat. It’s a stump just to the left of a sign that says no fires.
