I monitor another board and they posted the following:
[black]Close Call:[/black]
thought this would not happen to me, but it did! I was fishing today on my own. The same place I normally go to, and try to land a steelhead. I need to walk in about 1/4 mile.
I looked behind me and therewere four adult men, and no fishing rods. All I saw were brown paper bags, which they were drinking out of. As walk up river quickly,so did they.
I am trying to figure out where I need to go without a possible confrontation. The quicker I walk, they do the same.
Luckliy a drift boat with two guys come around the corner. The fisherman ask how I am doing, and I reply better now. These guys check out the boat, and stop moving toward me.
It gives me time to get out of there, and to my truck.I drive river a mile to another hole. The same drift boat comes along to pull out. I thanked them for showing up, when they did. I explained what happened, and they were very concerned. They wondered why these guys were there without fishing rods.
They told me that they are always carrying a weapon while fishing. Just in case something happens to them, like it did to me.
I do not know if if I will carry a weapon. But I will be more careful where I fish now! It is to know that is possible for that to happen, while enjoying yourself on the river.
I wrote this for two reasons: I want fisherman to be safe, and I was really shook up!
Do I think something was going to happen, maybe not, but I think so!
In Oregon the it is Legal to carry a gun to and/from fishing.
166.260 Persons not affected by ORS 166.250.
(b) Licensed hunters or fishermen while engaged in hunting or fishing, or while going to or returning from a hunting or fishing expedition.
What is Utah legal standpoint on this?
I am pretty much in the same boat - I suppose I could get my Leatherman out and protect my wife and kids - or should I go get my CC permit?
Be careful out there!!!
