Lake X open water by Sunday?
#1
Anyone know if Lake X is open water enough for a pontoon float this Sunday? Really itching to float some of my favorite spots.

You have all the open water that your heart could desire around thw PWC ramp. That entire arm is open water.

Hey CBR we were up there on Satuday, the open water goes from the PWC ramp to the dam and almost all the way up that arm, I think that is the Rockcliffs arm, this was my first time fishing there. We were trolling for browns but we could not get them to bite, we tried jigging in the Rockcliffs area on the edge of the ice but we didn't get any hits. We caught 3 fish and hade a few hits but that was it. One fish was a 3lb rainbow, the other was a 2lb brown, and the other was a smaller 15-17 inch brownie. We caught all of the fish on rapalas, the water was between 34-35 degrees and there were still guys icefishing on the ice. Can't wait for ice off at Starvation!!!!!![Smile] Hope this helps!

You did better than me on the browns but I was on the ice at Lake X sunday . They have been down deep but couldn't find any on sunday . Are you using downriggers , or just trolling shallow ? I kept seeing fish cruising at 25' on my finder , but didn't get my jig up fast enough to get a bite .

Great! Anyone else going to be up there boat or float bound? I need to have someone else with me incase anything bad happens. Not the season to float alone.

The weather report for Sunday say's the temp is to drop all the way down to 40 degree high. That means there will be a brrrrrrr factor on Lake X this weekend.

Friday or Saturday might be better days...up in the 50's.

Let me know if interested in Friday or Saturday...but Sunday's forecast looks to be tough fishing...not to mention awful cold and possible wind.

I am off to cast for some Cutts tomorrow with Polokid, and think I may change my day out to Saturday. Not sure about Jordanelle though, forecast still says there will be high winds. But I do need to get out and hook something after last weekends trip to Willard. Skunks don't smell pretty.

Look forward to it. Is the launch area by wallsburg open? It was closed when I tried to launch there last November.

Hehe, yeah, I am a bit blonde here, it happens.

Just was thinking that area where the launch ramp is, the cove3 is steep so the water may not have had enough sunshine to melt the ice I saw there few weeks ago.

BTW just checked the forecast for Saturday. Man, can you say SWEET! Mid 60s in the valley.

Hey Craig,
I seem to be one of the idiots that doesn't know when to put the boat away and get out the ice auger (although I've done that this year also...)
I've boated Jordanelle the last two Saturdays in a row.
The PWC ramp is wide open, south to the dam and east towards the Rock Cliffs, but then you will hit ice before even getting to the buoys. From the MAIN boat ramp and North, it is nothing but ice.
We have been targeting browns and although we have seen some brown-looking marks on the finder, I have yet to get into one yet this year. We have tried trolling fast/slow, etc. Rapalas, pop gear, all to no avail. For that matter, we haven't caught ANYTHING trolling or with a spinner or lure. The water temp is still only 38.5 degrees and I think the fish are just not in the chasing mood yet.
We are however seeing more and more fish scattered along the rock cliff arm and on the west shore north of the dam, as the water gets warmer. Still, the only success we've had is jigging up against the ice as far as you can go east on the rock cliff arm. Last Saturday I landed a 19" rainbow along with more than 30, 12 to 14 inchers jigging. (We had 3 of us in the boat, and lost more than we caught...)
I didn't have any hits at all anywhere else on the lake. I think as soon as the water gets into the 42-44 degree range, the trolling and luring will get better.
Hope this helps. We will be there Saturday again. We drive an old 14' foot aluminum boat.

[green][size 2]The Gunship will be making an appearance at one or the other. My Dad has the day off, so we be an angling.

Water temp at Deer Creek last saturday was 38-45 degrees. There was ice from the bouys to the dam. The rest of the lake was wide open.

We won't leave until late morning(10:30 or 11 or 12...)

Here's a current update for Deer Creek.

NO ICE on lake at all. All ramps under water and open. Trout fishing is fair to good depending on where you choose to fish. Suggestion ...........
Choose the spots thst the sun warms most, fish humps and structure. Be patient, fish slow.
