Most of the reservoirs have open water and ice fishing is pretty much done for the year. Fishing ranges from fair to good across most of the region and like always can be dead one day and red hot the next. The streams coming out of the various mountain ranges are swollen and muddy, so fishing is very poor. The one exception might be the Bruneau, though this is doubtful, where snowfall is well below normal this year. However, to get to the Bruneau river at this you need to go in from the Idaho side at Grasmere and with the recent wet weather, you will need 4WD.
[#990033]ANGEL LAKE[/#990033]
The road is closed at least until Memorial Day and even then, there is no insurance that the lake will not be covered in ice.
CAVE LAKE
Ice conditions are unknown, though at last report it was unsafe. However, with the recent warmer weather, the ice should be coming off soon, if it has not already done so.
COMINS LAKE
The lake is ice free and fishing is hit or miss, with limits being taken one day and no fish being caught the next. . Limits of 14 to 20 inch rainbows are being caught on a regular basis and night crawlers and powerbait are the baits of choice. Fishing is good from shore, though a few hardy people are float tubing. This lake along with Crittendon is probably one of the best bets for fishing this spring.
[#990033]CRITTENDEN RESERVOIR[/#990033]
The road is clear, though with the wet conditions 4WD is probably a good idea. The lake is ice free and fishing is fair to good. This lake is artificial lures and flies only with a limit of one trout 17 inches or larger.
[#990033]DORSEY RESERVOIR[/#990033]
No fish.
[#990033]JIGGS / ZUNINO RESERVOIR[/#990033]
Here’s a body of water we haven’t heard from in a while. Jiggs is about half full and will soon be stocked with a couple of thousand trout including some 14 to 16 inch brood stock. Water continues to flow into it at a fairly good rate and with the vegetative growth that occurred while it was dry, this water should be nutrient rich and the fish should grow quickly.
[#990033]MOUNTAIN STREAMS & LAKES[/#990033]
Travel not recommended.
[#990033]RUBY LAKE NWR[/#990033]
Open water. The collection ditch is open and fishing for the brood stock is fair to good using bright spinners, leech, wooly bugger and bead head P/T Nymphs. Several anglers have reported having good days catching a lot of larger brood stock using spinners, rooster tails and the kitchen sink.
[#990033]SOUTH FORK RESERVOIR[/#990033]
This lake is wide open and you can launch a boat from the boat ramp. Fishing is hit or miss, with one day being extremely slow and the next being good. However, many of the fish that are being caught are in the 20-inch plus size range. Most of the fish caught this past weekend were caught from shore. Boat anglers didn’t catch many, but it is just a matter of time before that changes. There is a midge hatch in the afternoons on South Fork Reservoir. Midges there are relatively large and midge patterns up to size 10 can be used.
[#990000]WILDHORSE RESERVOIR[/#990000]
The only way to reach the ice here is with a boat. The shoreline is very muddy and launching even car top type boats and canoes is messy and not really recommended. The state park boat ramp is out of the water and not usable. No recent reports of angling success, probably because of the difficult conditions.
[#990000]WILSON RESERVOIR[/#990000]
The road to Wilson is 4WD only right now and the lake may start spilling at any time. However, the snow pack was only about half of normal before these last few storms and the water isn’t expected to spill for very long and probably won’t contain as many fish as it has in the past few years.
