DWR stocks PCYL - salamanders?
#1
The DWR stocked 10 PCYL into Jensen pond. http://www.outdoorsgonewild.com/dwr/stocking_report.php

What is a "PCYL"? I searched all over google and the DWR website and only came up with a PCYL being Plethodon cylindraceus, or "white-spotted slimy salamander"

They have stocked PCYL before, in Yuba:

Does the DWR really stock salamanders from Virginia?!?!?!?!

PCYL - that would be perch/yellow. Cant believe they would waste the time to plant ten perch. But then on the other hand ten perch might just take over and ruin the whole fishery![Wink]

Maybe there left over fish from some research study so they just dumped the unused fish in the local kids ponds.

Perch Yellow, That makes a lot more sense than salamanders *grins sheepishly*

They only planted 25 largemouth bass in farmington a little while ago. I think they are trying to establish a population. I sure can't think of any other reason to plant so few fish.

10 pre-spawn perch can very quickly turn into 10 million fish....

Recently, the DWR collected smallmouth bass from Newcastle Res to re-stock Otter Creek, Piute, and Minersville. They dumped about 150 smallies in each of these places. Doesn't sound like much, but again, they were pre-spawn, and loaded with eggs. Those 150 fish will quickly turn into lots, and lots of fish...
