Is it a lamprey eel?
Do a Google search for lamprey & pacific and you come up with a bunch of info, including this page: http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/swcbd/species/lamprey/ I didn't know before today that there were any lampreys in the Pacific. Yep, it's a lamprey. I've caught a lot of eels on the Potamac and Rappahannock rivers in Virginia and it doesn't look anything like one of them. How big is that thing?

Hey Craig - these lamprey eels run mostly at night and if you look on the right side of the fish count numbers they actually count these.
Here is the link for fish counts: http://www.fpc.org/currentdaily/HistFishTwo_7day-ytd_Adults.htm Just like anything that isn't considered "Game Fish" the lamprey is in trouble numbers wise - counts are going down each year... Tubedude is right - these are the "best" sturgeon bait other then shad. They run up the streams and spawn. [signature] |
