Weber River...two sections...

Well, I heard the water was going down up Weber Cyn so I drove on up. The Croyden area is usually great in the fall, unfortunately the water was still running a bit high and not too clear. So I decided to try up by Coalville which has been clear almost all summer. So I get on the water and find it kinda high and off color. I fish a few miles of river anyway that I always think looks so good.....not a single fish...I don't get it.


Not one to get skunked easily, I stop in Weber cyn on the way home around Henefer. Still high water and off color. Then out of no where, I fish jumps and then a few more. I just don't understand this. The water was still pretty brown. I throw a few streamers and get a few hits and score a little 5 inch brown before dark. By the way, I was fly fishing the entire time. The Weber looks so promising and I just don't get it!! I wish the water was more stable.

I fished the weber at Henifer yesterday. Caughet 3 white fish in between my dog chasing my strike indicator. yes the water is a little high but the color is nothing to keep the fish from bitting. I would go back tomarrow. I did have to add extra weight to get to the fish and once I figured that out I had strikes imediatly. #14 red crotch cricket and 18 barber scud hit them for me.

A poor year on the Weber for me, at least compared to the previous few years. Perhaps I have just hit it at the wrong times, I have a hectic travel schedule. Even pounding a grasshoper inbetween the rocks low in the canyon has been near fruitless this year.

I've always wanted to try hitting the weber but have never got around to doing it. I have a friend who has given me some tips on where to fish and what to use. Do spinners work well on the weber? My friend always used nymphs but I usually stick to dry flies and spinners. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Nymphs usually are more effective on the weber. The white fish feed on the bottom.

James, I fished that area this morning with a friend. He scored three nice Browns on a #18 copper john behind a hairs ear. I just got white fish on a san juan and pheasant tail combo. Lost two nice fish that broke me off before I could see them. Time for some new tippit.

I never through a dry at them. Didn't see any rising so I stayed on the bottom.
I did have to clean ICE from my eyelets a few times. That got me excited for hard water and Green BOOGERS!!![]
