Hit Strawberry this morning with two friends. We fished from 7 AM to around 11 AM boating 52 cuts and about half that or more in misses. We started with pointers and didn't catch a fish for the first half an hour. After that the action heated up and we ended up with about 25 fish from pointers afterwhich we changed to white tube jigs. 15 feet was the magic depth for tubes and we found a nice line of fish on bottom we marked with GPS and fished them hard for a couple hours. No wind at all up there this morning, water temp is down to 46.6 and didn't change during the morning. Most of the algae is gone as well and the underwater weeds seem to be starting to draw back a little. We caught 10 fish over the slot, including four over 24" and three over 23". The fish are very fat and healthy. Enjoy-

A little of both, though I caught the most by casting and jigging back to the boat.

I noticed that Saturday, I was trying to verticaly jig and wasn't getting any bites (I did get one bite - wow), and cableguy was casting and retrieving or jigging back to the boat and getting far more hits than I was. Interesting how it keeps changing up there and one must keep trying something different until one hits on what is working that particular day.

I'm glad to see the water temp at 46 degrees. Wasn't it still in the 50's last year around this time? I'm waiting anxiously for the hard water.

I keep a fishing journal logging all the pertinent stuff about each time I go fishing (water temp, sky picture, water clarity, location I fished, techniques, lures, success/failure, etc, etc). My journal shows that last year water temp on Nov 6th was 45.7, so the water is actually a little warmer this year than last, at least by my records.

Hi piscis
Sounds like a great day fishing for sure. I have a couple of questions for you. Have you heard any reports of fly fishermen catching anything on Strawberry? Since Henry's is closed for the year I need to expand my horizons a little. I used to fish Strawberry back when I was a kid. I had lots of fun. I need to come down and see family and might take a run out to the berry and try a little fishin.

Strawberry is awesome in the fall on a fly rod. I saw some float tubers catch on some on a fly last week not sure what they were using. In the past I've caught my share on wooly bugggers and damsel fly patterns. But you better hurry if you plan on fly fishing the Berry this year, only about a month till iceup.

Several years ago the only way I fished Strawberry was by tube (I couldn't afford a boat then) and had good success this time of year with flies. My favorites were black crystal buggers, white streamers and various large muddler patterns. We used to get into Horse Creek because its fairly protected from the wind and you can get to a shore quickly if the weather turns. Caught a ton of cuts in there and a great big 'bow (like 10 lb) around Thanksgiving. Better use the 5mm's at least this time of year!
