Mud creek report
#1
My son and I were up at mud creek today along with 3 other groups, at least one was a bft crowd, Scotty p I think. We ended up icing 15 between us and my son must have lost 6 at the hole, he eventually got the hang of it. All slot cutts but one of the ones lost at the hole was a rainbow, nice sized. We were in 20 feet of water but most of the fish were suspended at between 15 and 8 ft. of water. A fish finder would have been the ticket today, I don't get mine till the first of Jan. White tube jigs tipped with minnow worked best, I did catch 1 with a whatacricket and millworm and one with a paddlebug. We had fairly steady bites but there were a couple of dead times. We were on the north side but the one group on the south side seemed to be doing a bit better, I think they had a good finder and were targeting the fish when they moved through. Average ice thickness was 4 inches but it looked like clear across to highway 40 there was a cap on the whole thing.
Good fishing to ya'll

Great report and thanks for the info. Sounds like you guys had some fun. I think the fish finder is about as important as the pole!! [unsure] I don't know how I fished without one before!! LOL

Were you the guys with the ice shack? I'm glad to hear someone was catching fish! Deathman had a finder but I don't think it was working very well.

Yes we had the shack, my son loves to fish in that thing. He could actually see several fish swimming around his bait when he would go down in the 10 to 12 foot depth from inside there. He got some of his hookups because he could see the fish hitting his jig.

I was the group on the south side I think You were the closest group to us. The fish finder does make a big difference I wouldn't be without it. I was wondering why you would sit outside the hut in that cold weather. I thought there must not have been room.

Unless it's really nasty weather I prefer being outside, there was room but I like being outside and moving. I thought you guys had a finder cause nobody ever moved much cept to land a fish. As you noticed we were all over trying to find the honey hole. Probably could have caught a few more fish if we had stayed put in one spot. What kind of finder do you have?

I have a lowrance x65 its a few years old but it works great. If you are looking, get one with fasttrack mode. It is a realtime display so you can watch your jig and you can watch fish come after it. It helps when they take it on the fall you see your jig falling and then you see a fish coming up to intercept it as soon as the 2 lines meet you jig stops and you set the hook. We started out a little closer to where you were fishing then we moved after 2 fish in 30 minutes and no other action.

It is good to hear from you. We should hook up and go fishing some time. I can bring the finder. I saw you in the Chevron today but didn't get a chance to say hi as I was on the cell phone.

p.s. The land has been a ton of work but a blast.
