Made it to Strawberry today with a couple neighbors. It wasn't a stellar day but we managed to land over 25 fish. Surprisingly, the largest was the first fish we caught at 21 inches and most were under the slot (all cutts). Casting the shoreline early didn't produce any fish and vertical jigging was really slow. Caught all but a couple fish trolling. Downrigger at 15' was the hotest rod.

Could have used your help today. Never could get the trolling motor started. Had to troll with the big outboard. Sometimes trolled a little fast, and we caught one going over 3.5 mph, when we sped up to get in front of another boat.

Sound like you found a few . The big girls (cutts) might be spawning now . Spawning time can be slower but it should heat up after it is over .

You did better than we did Kent. I had my worse day ever at the berry today. Did you see all of the cutts crusing the shallows on the boat ramp? There was close to 100 cutts in less than a foot to 6' of water when we pulled the boat out at 3:30.

I can't say I've ever trolled at strawberry, What's a good average speed to start at.

Are you sure you saw cutts. 6-7-06 I was in the Meadows area and saw thousands of chubs working the grass on the shoreline. I've heard about the chubs coming back, but had no idea that there were that many. I saw schools of 10 - 12 inchers swimming around under the boat close to shore also. Seagulls were doing their best to dive at the small ones at the shoreline. I wonder if DWR will ever kill the lake again knowing it is only temporary.
Also, that was the first day of all the thunderstorms. After deciding it was time to get out while the gettin' was good at about 3pm, I was reeling in and keep hearing some clicking sound. The clicking was a static charge coming off the butt end of my rod to my stomach. It would only happen as I was reeling in and was jumping about an inch between me and the rod. Well, I put the rod tip in the water and got my lure in and then hauled butt out of there.

I would start at 2.0 mph (GPS) and if that doesn't work first try faster, and then slower. Also depends a lot on what you are trolling.

I am positive they where cutts. They where 16"-20" cutts some could of been bigger. Petty4Life and FishMan seen them also. They where right on the ramp and around the boat docks.

There me and Petty were minding our own buisness when I looked down in the water "at the ramp" and said hey Petty check this out. There was a small school of minnows being chased around by a load of cutts. Nice cutts. No dinks. The minnows were way outnumbered and cutts were going nuts chasing them around. Me and Petty had them within a few steps of us. I've never seen anything like it. Another guy at the ramp thought I was full of it, well, I normally am I guess, but not this time. I told him to look over and he got a kick out of it too.

Give it a week or two for the spawn to finish up. I was up on Thursday AM (though I didn't get time to post) and caught a bunch in like 4' of water early, but it has slowed down alot while they spawn - after that............game on.
