Fished the berry with Bugln4Bulls,Parisite and our buddy Curt from 7:30am - 7:30pm. Started out north of mud creek where we finished strong last week but it did not work out for us today, picked up a few in this area but it was not fast enough to waste any more time there. Headed over to the knolls and it wasn't much better. After spending the first 6 hours with mediocre catching we then headed over the the ladders. This area turned out to be some excellent fishing, we caught 6 fish over the slot in this area 4-22.5 inchers 1-23.5 incher and a 24.5 incher. We boated 65-75 fish for the day 3/4 of the fish where caught in the ladders area. Bugl4Bulls had the hot stick today and big fish honors went to me. All fish where caught vertical jigging in 38'-41' of water.

Surface temperature was 73*

Excellent! Looked like a pearl tube jig - tipped with anything? Seems like a lot of people give up on the Berry this time of year.
WAY TO GO!!!

HA, there where alot of boats on the water yesterday. Getting into the area north of mud creek yesterday morning it was an obsticle coarse of boats, I like keeping my distance from other boats when motoring past them but it was impossible. Bugln4Bulls had another big one on that did not want to come up from the bottom and he lost it, it most likey would of challenged my 24 incher.

MrLipRipper, The jig that work best for us yesterday was a pink/pepperd perl white its hard to see the pink high light and the black specks in the photo. We where tipping our jiggs with chub. shiner or worm. I like fishing the berry this time of year, if you consentrate at depths of 40' you can get into them. When we see fish in 56' of water they would be suspended at 40' fish that are in 40' feet of water are holding tight to the bottom.

With the higher water this year the berry is fishing different than the previous years. Its taking alot of time to find good active schools.

Brandon, we caught all of our biggest fish in the same place we where catching all of those planter cutts the week before, I wonder if they moved in to munch on them.

Nice report MGB, about time I got back up that way I think - been too busy at the Gorge and Fish Lake. Great to see that the red-sides are back around, that'll make the fall minnow-crank bait slaying all the better. You ever have time mid-week for a half or 3/4 day Berry trip?

I never go on a week day but I think I would take a day off so I can see how you fish it. Let me know when you have an empty seat.

Thanks MGB,

Based on your post and pictures, we decided to see if the fish were still in the area this morning- they were! We noticed 3 other boats jigging in the area ( mine was the Blue/Pewter Lund). I scanned the area and found a large number of fish just off the bottom, threw out a marker and immediately got into them jigging 3" pearl white tube jigs tipped with worm. At times it was fast a furious! It was like winter fishing; they hit very light and you have to be quick to set the hook or you will miss them. We Fished this area from approx 9AM to Noon. While we missed 2/3 of the hits, we still managed to boat and release a large number of cutts just under the slot. One of the best 1/2 day of fishing I've ever had on the berry.

Glad you got into them. I directed FishinFool to that area maybe one of the boats was him. I was starting to wonder if the late afternoon was the best time to fish since my last two trips I couldn't get into them untill late afternoon but since you did well in the morning I guess it is a location issue and the fish are not staying in the same location for me. Thanks for the report.

MGB,
The best fishing for us was 10AM-11 AM today. I used my bow mount trolling motor to keep finding active fish around a 100 yard radius from my marker. The "W" came in around Noon and made it hard to stay on top of them, so we left. We used the same locating and vertical jigging tactics we use at the Gorge for Mac's. It sure was FUN!!!

Yep,I was over in that area too,The early bite was best for use also,it died down alot around 3:00 pm,The fish where still there but not hitting as hard, they would tap it once or twice and then nothing,in the morning they where grabing the bait and taking off with it,alot of fun and alot of fish caught,If it would have been a little more overcast I would have stayed longer,I got burned out by 5:00pm and hit the road.
Water Temp 75 degrees
Bait was 2 1/2 inch pearl white tube jig tipped with shiner.
Thanks again for the great post MGB you put use right on the fish.
