[cool][#0000ff]Lots of owners of small boats, pontoons, canoes, etc. have been outraged by the new registration fees. Seems that a canoe pays the same as cabin cruisers.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]According to an ARTICLE IN THE TRIB legislators have corrected the problem. No need to trade in the float tube for a bass boat just to get my money's worth on registration.[/#0000ff]

I sure hope that my Porta-Bote meets the definition to qualify for a $10 fee.

[black]That is good to hear. I pay $26. every year for my 11 1/2' Cardiac Canyon. Never understood that but the lines were always so long at the DMV, I never fought it.[/black]
[black]They told me it was higher because the price of the pontoons (2 of them) was $2,400.[/black]
[black]I wonder if I will get some money back?[/black]

Back when I licensed my float tube (SFC) I had a float power (small tube that attaches to the back and holds a battery and a motor). I noticed that the registration said it was a 3 horsepower in-board/out-board?! WHAT! They had no idea how to license these when we first started putting motors on them. Pontoons were even more confusing. She kept asking me for my title for the toon, I gave her the sales slip, but she kept insisting, that wasn't enough, it didn't state who it was sold to.
Manager came over and I think she pulled a price out of her you know what. I went with that just to get out of there.

According to my registration my pontoon has an electric 36hp motor. Couldn't handle pounds of thrust.

I talked to State Representative Ben Ferry from Corinne today in the store. He is the chairman of the Appropriations committe and oversees all of the finances of the Department of Natural Resources. He told me about their fixing the problem with the registration of pontoon boats also. He said they had to write definitions of canoes, etc. so the State Tax Commission could get the right assessments on the small watercraft that had never been done before. He said when you get your next registration notice there will be a section on there telling you how to apply to get the refund back from the State on the overpayment you may have made. Acey

Yup, they fixed it alright. Next year or maybe this one they will be "fixing" your home owner taxes like your car and boat taxes.
Everyone will be in the same type of matrix that everyone is used to paying thier boat and car taxes.
The guy on the hill with the $2,000,000 10,000 square ft. home will pay the same taxes as the guy in the valley with a $100,000 manufactured home on a foundation.
Do you guys have any idea who's taxes will be getting adjusted up and who's will be getting adjusted down??? I hope it doesn't take you too long to figure it out.
Sounds like a hoot doesn't it???????
