JED WELSH FISHING TACKLE - ANTIQUES???
#1
I just picked up a huge lot of Jed Welsh lures, hooks, tools(millions of items).. well I think everything from his warehouse closure. I ran across his original seller's permits dating back at least to the 1930's. (I havent opened the frame but there are at least 10 permits) I was wondering how I can go about finding out if there is any value to any of this. From what I have read so far, this gentleman is a legend. Any info would be greatly appreciated. fsujulia@bellsouth.net

I don't think it's worth anything, so you might as well send it all to me so I can dispose of it for you, free of charge [Tongue]

sellers permit, not worth much if any thing at the moment, dont throw it away, and take stock form the inventory to put with it, if you can find stuff that goes with the year of the permit. this will make you a collectors item.

as to what it will be worth in the future is anybody's guess. now its only 75 years old. I have never heard of them, but that dosnt mean it wont be worth something some day. if they are wood and are hand crafted granted they are worth more than plastic molded items.

to be frank, you have given to little for any one to give you any kind of answer to. you need to give names and sizes of lures. did he manufacture them or just retail them in his packaging?

I am moving this to another board where it should get you a better responce than I can provide.

this board is for items going up for auction, not inquries.

I apologize for posting in the wrong forum, but sincerely appreciate your response. Yes he manufactured his own lures, and most of the iventory is from the 80's. I plan on saving the licenses anyway just because they look really cool. Thank you again for your response.
So far I gather he was a southern california fishing icon. That the stuff I have is mostly retail value and he at least made super quality lures. Thanks again for your time! Julie

thats ok, I did not know if you were planning on auctioning your items or just seeking information.

in either case that is what I am here for, to make sure you get the information you seek as soon as posible.

some of the most collectable, and valuable of collected items are hand carved wood icefishing fish decoys ranging from hundreds of dollars to a couple thousands of dollars.

this information below is not what you are looking for, but you may want to take a look at it to get an idea of what is a prized collectable.

These are the collectible decoys which are familiar to sportsmen, art collectors and students of folk and vernacular art today.[#ffffff] [/#ffffff]
