Freak Fish!!

Went to the Berry yesterday to do alittle ice fishin & try a shoot some geese, no geese seen but caught about 20 fish with a couple of keeper cuts, 13.5" and one freaky 14.75" cut! pretty slow day specially for the 1.25mile walk to the island[unsure] never do that again! but here's a pic of the freak!

I have caught several fish at Strawberry over the years that look just like that fish's twin. Also done the hike the island several times, and will likely do it again many more times.

Its only MHO, but either someone is sick of Cuts in the Berry and playing an evil trick,, or/and perhaps the use of jaw grimps are causing some of these odd balls..

I too have seen a fish like that at Strawberry. Mine was a slot cutt though and not small enough to keep. I'm surprised how healthy they look even though deformed. I guess two mouths is better to eat with than one!

I've caught a couple of those as well. Not sure how they survive, but they do. Not quite as fat as a "normal" fish. If you were a minnow, that is the fish you would want chasing you! Just swim back out of his mouth!

Your freak is a genetic mutation........lol, maybe these fish are marrying their brothers and sisters[]. This is like what happened historically in royal families in Europe......they inbred.....and everyone had an extra finger or two.......lol.

Do you think that maybe these fish have been put on a wire fish stringer just below the jaw and then for one reason or another break lose,( like take off in a boat and not remember to pull the stringer in?) It looks to me like that is a possibility.

I entirely agree. The fish isn't a genetic mutation it is a lucky SOB. Somebody was cleaning it or had it on a stringer.

I think you mean it WAS a lucky SOB. I think it used it all up on the first go around. I think you are right. That is the very first cut I make when cleaning a trout.
