FG macks, I just want to catch one

After seeing those pics of those HUGE macks it really burns my @#$ that I lost my only one at the hole last weekend. I've heard from some DWR hands that there are an overabundance of small (well, around 5 lbs. or so) macks at the George and the limit was raised to help combat this. Anyone have more info. on this? Is there a place thats close enough to walk to and fish for these smaller macks. A half hour walk would be reasonable. The elusive mackinaw (to me anyway) is on my to do list this year on the hard deck.

Yes there is....if you can walk out from the lucerne campground toward the south, there are a few mounds out there that hold Mac. If you drive around to the Antelope side ( Eastern) you could find a few mounds just out 500 yards South West from the boat ramp area.

Additionally, you could drive down to the Pipeline area and / or buckboard area ( NorthEast of Manilla) and try along there. In fact, there are many places that hold Mac. If you know someone with GPS coordinates to some of the 80-100' mounds in the swim beach areas it would be worth the long trek, but I wouldn't go to far North or south of Swim beach unless you had exact gps coordinates ( needle in the haystack without gps) . I've got Mac in my blood after catching and releasing a few 35+ lb'ers jigging from my boat. Bad news is once you land one of those monsters, It's becomes an addicition that will likely last the rest of your life. The Good News is if your going to have an addiction, this one isn't so bad. I would also pick up one of those maps they sell at Sportsmans they have all the humps gps cords everything you need. Antelope flats woud be an easy walk the 80' humps. MH

if you want to catch some of the smaller ones i would try anvel. esay walk to deep water a little long but can be done.. just go out on the flats find 60 to 100 feet of water and give it a shot..
i pulled a 26" out up with no gps or anything just took the slead out and punched some holes tell i found the deepth i wanted and fished..

Fuzzyfisher, I've read your posts and was wondering what you are using to caught the macs. Are you using suckermeat or minnows on jigs? Of course I want to increase my odds when I get my butt up there.

Where would one get sucker meat? The obvious answer would be to catch one. I don't even know where to find suckers...this could go the wrong way. Can you buy the meat?
I didn't know those fishing maps had GPS coordinates, I'll have to pick one up, thanks. I'll be planning a trip around the 3rd weekend in Feb. (weather permitting) I haven't been to the George fishing in about 17 years
