[black][size 3]Willard still has a lot of ice on it. But, there is certainly enough open water to get a canoe on and you could definitely find fishable water there. If you go to the right place, at the right time and do the right thing you could also get into some good fishing. [/size][/black]

[black][size 3]I went softwater fishing yesterday and caught and released about 15 pounds of fish and short line released probably around another 10 pounds. On my scouting trip a few days ago, I also caught fish then too. So, if a person wanted to work a bit for it, they could get some fishing and catching done.[/size][/black]

[cool][#0000ff]The channel at the North Marina is ice free and there is open water along a long stretch of the east side of the lake out from the marina. You could fish in several spots with the expectation of getting fish.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also, I just checked by calling the State Parks office at Willard and they said that the lake is open to any craft that can launch...small boats, tubes or pontoons. The closure was primarily during the time they were drawing down the water and there were construction vehicles working in the area.[/#0000ff]

[ ][ ] Echoing the staement of Tube dude, I was also told that the North marina is open to launch if you can get your boat or whatever you have through the channel. Not sure on the South End. Might go for a little drive this Saturday and check it out.

[cool][#0000ff]They keep the gate closed on the South Marina until late March or April. Maybe longer this year. But, it is legal to carry or wheel in a tube or toon and launch if there is enough water. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have a new golf cart setup for my tube that I wanna try. Wheel it in, fold up and stow behind the seat and launch. I have had some good days out of the south marina in low water years in the past. No pesky skiers, wakeboarders or PWC's neither. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I am likely to be up there by the end of next week.[/#0000ff]

Hey Troy, how you been? Have you got out for any ice fishing this winter?
The last two years, Willard has filled up, if it wasn't for them finding a hole in the dike, the lake would be full now. They have been draining the lake to do the repairs and say it should be done by May. We are hoping the spring runoff won't be over by then and the lake will go up a few feet before the summer draw down begins. Not a lot of snow in the mountains this winter, so a lot of us are concerned.

[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, like WH2 said, they found a leak in the substrate of the dike and dumped out about 10 feet of water to find and repair it. They will be keeping the lake down until the fix is completed. Hopefully that is before the major runoff and there is enough runoff to bring the level up again.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We got spoiled the last two years. The lake was full up to the tip top and did not drop much even by the end of summer.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]How are you doing back in your current venue? Any chance you will get back to this neck of the woods?[/#0000ff]

I just drove by there about 2 hours ago (430 pm) and there sure was a lot of open water out in front of the marina and than to the north of the marina looked pretty open as well. I was in the back of the truck so I did not get any pics. Ohh well.

We drove by Willard at 5 pm, I noticed the same thing you did. Plus there were two trucks in the parking lot, one had a small boat trailer behind it. It even looked like the water level had come up a little since I drove to the ramp, two weeks ago. Could have been wishful thinking on my part though, because I didn't stop either. WH2

Here is the official skinny on Willard Bay. Yes you can launch a boat from the North Marina, although I wouldn't make it a big one. The reservoir is semi frozen over in spots. There is an ice sheet that runs from the north dike to the south dike right in the middle. In other words you won't make the west side by boat, unless somehow your boat can turn into a submarine. There were some guys out fishing in a boat yesterday and they caught nothing but a buzz and I hope a big wake up call on alcohol and boating and lifejackets. Well anyways if you go good luck and remember the fee is $9.00. Any questions feel free to call or message me.
