All,
I'm making a list of places I want to take my kids fishing this summer and I'd like to have more info on Tibble Fork Res. I know it's a small place, but we fish from shore anyway. Anybody fish it? What's the best time of year to go? Tactics used, etc?
thanks in advance

It's stocked pretty frequently so there's really no "best" time to fish it. Only thing I'd suggest is to try and avoid weekends and holiday's to cut back on the number of anglers. With kids I've always found that a worm or powerbait works best about 3' off the bottom. North side is easily accessable but also a little shallower and often more weeds. South side is deeper but a little more difficult to get to. Good luck and have fun with the kids!

fished it today. froze my a#$ off cuz the wind was terrible, but still had a good time. landed a few small bows slow strippin' a nymph under an idicator near the inlet, and the outlet. it was pretty open last week, but today there was more ice, which made me fish elsewhere than I usually do. check it out in the summer, and if you have a truck/suv, check silver lake flats out too.

I didn't think it would have open water, glad to hear you at least caught some.
Never been to silver lake, can you give me directions? I have a suburban so should be ok.
thank you

Just keep following the paved road past tibble fork and a bout a mile up the road you'll see the sign for silver lake. It is a dirt road but it's usually in pretty good shape and where your in a suburban you'll be fine. I think its probably a couple miles up to the lake.

It is actually Silver Lake Flat Reservoir. (There IS a Silver Lake that you can hike to (around 1-2 miles) above Silver Lake Flat Reservoir though. Silver Lake had Grayling planted in it last year, but they won't be big enough to catch this year. Has some good brookies though.
There is also another "Silver Lake", not the same one, that is above Brighton Ski resort somewhere in Big Cottonwood canyon, and can be walked to in less than 1/4 mile. It isn't as good of fishing though.
See my site, I have a page for Silver Lake and Silver Lake Flat Reservoir (in AF Canyon).

Can always count on CatMan to give up some good info. I found both the lake and the Res. using your directions and google earth. appreciate the help.

I have done well with the kids by using a spinrod-clear bobber setup, with a four-foot leader (more or less) and a tiny (#20 or smaller) hook tied with just some black thread. I have them reel in kinda slowly. The trout like the smallness/shape of the fly. I do the same with a fly rod, only stripping in with 3-4" strips. The fly really only has black thread on the shank.

[black][size 3]I am going to start off saying, I am not pointing finger at anyone. But, I am seeing an increasing problem at both lakes. GARBAGE! Please think of the kids and take out what you take it....maybe even more .[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Everytime I have fished either one, I find myself walking to the car with a sack of can's, bottles, old bottles of power bait or eggs, and worm containers and I fly fish![mad][/size][/black]

Too bad that people do that, but it's a good chance to teach the kids. I go shooting out on the west side of utah lake a lot and it seems as though hardly anyone takes their spent shotguns shells with them. The kids and I are always taking out tons of shells. It's cool to see them get bothered by the garbage that people leave behind.

I use to fish and camp in that area quite a bit but quit because of the crowds and trash. The last time we were there we fished near the inlet down from that little bridge and a bunch of kids kept jumping in and out of the water. There there quite a few people who looked to be from out of town BBQing on the beach Left big bag of garbage sitting right next to the water.
I would highly suggest passing Tibble and fishing Silver Flatts Res

I totally stay away from tibble in the summer. Some days the crowds can redefine the term "combat fishing", but the other day it wasn't too bad. There we're still plenty of people, but most of them were up there to sled/tube. Only one group of fishers besides us there.

Silver lake flat is off limits to camping. If I remember correctly its closed to camping for a half mile around the lake.

it is closed to camping up there... the best place to camp if you want to go up there is between tibble fork and silver lake flats... if you go up past tibble fork and follow the paved road around to the left it will take you right to the campground.. then you are about a half mile from tibble fork and three miles from silver lake flats... they are really nice campgrounds too..
