New PVC Tool Rack
#1
[cool][#0000ff]Been messin' with the PVC again. S'prise, s'prize.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I have tried and discarded several designs for keeping my most often used tools handy on my tube. This one works dandy, but I already have a couple of modifications in mind. S'prize, s'prize.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I made it of 1" schedule 20 (light) PVC. It is sturdy and doesn't weigh much. The key is drilling holes in the bottom of the "T" connectors to allow the goodies to poke through.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I use long nose pliers for everything, and hate to have to hunt for them in a crowded tube pocket when I need them. I also use a pair of stout side cutters for crunching off the pectoral spines on catfish. Then, there is the fillet knife for routine bait cutting and carp gillectomies. Finally, the lip gripper. [#0000ff]This design makes them all secure and available while on the water. The end tubes are spaced at 14", to fit down inside the yellow rope loops on the outside D rings. Quick and easy, on and off. No other securing needed.[/#0000ff]

Having seen this creation up close, I have to say how genious this is. Getting all of those "sharp and pokey" things out of your tube pockets to make room for more donuts is a great idea.

One question I forgot to ask -- where are you finding all of the schedule 20 PVC -- in my part of the country I think it may be against code (for what PVC is usually used for), because I can't find it in any of the usual haunts. (Maybe I should just follow the guy doing the gubment' housing projects and see where he stocks up) [Wink]

[cool][#0000ff]I can't find the schedule 20 everywhere I look, but at least a couple of the Home Depot locations in Salt Lake have it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I think it is used more for sprinkler systems than for interior plumbing applications. You may try looking at a sprinkler supply place too.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]For this particular project, using schedule 40 won't make too much difference in weight, and since you are not putting rod handles in it, the narrower inside diameter of the thicker walled 40 won't make a difference.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The big thing is to select the tools you want to take out with you and then custom fit them to the tubes with a dremel tool and rotary 1/2" drum sander head.[/#0000ff]

Lowes had it here in Ohio but it's called CPVC or something. just ask if they have any thin-walled PVC.
