My weekend float

[black][size 3]We got to Yuba about 7:30pm Friday and the water looked pretty choppy so we set up camp and made dinner, watch a little TV and went to bed.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Got up Saturday while still dark, made coffee, ate a banana and waited for the sun to warm it up a bit.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Got down to the boat launch. We unloaded Evil Ashes boat off the top of the truck, then pulled mine out of the back and inflated it (remember, our truck bed is a few inches shy of 6').[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Got all our gear loaded and headed out. Our goal was straight across to a bay. So with Depth Charge Line, and a Chub Special fly, I trolled across the lake landing a couple on the way.[/size][/black]

[black][size 3]We finally made it over to the bay and the water was GIN CLEAR, so we went into stealth mode. There were Carp and HUGE ones, but they weren't going for my offerings this time.[/size][/black]

[black][size 3]I caught fish using the strike indicator and also using nymphs on an intermediate line with slow strip. The word on the shore was that Saturday was a very slow day of fishing.[/size][/black]

[size 3][black]We got back to shore for a little lunch and of course the wind picked up so we didn't go back out. [/black][/size]

[black][size 3]Saturday Night, the wind was terrible. Very strong gusts. Around 2:00 a.m. I awoke to the light show from H#$*&. Wind still blowing strong. Sunday morning, pouring rain and black clouds as far as the eye could see, so packed up and headed home.[/size][/black]

I'll bet that storm was wild out there. It was very strong at Stansbury Park. It woke me right up at 2:00 am.

I like to looks of that rig for hauling the pontoon on top of the camper shell.

I don't have a shell right now, but I would like to get one.

When Frozenover and I go together, the rack on top would come in very handy.

Nice truck, and nice boats. Nice fish, too. The arms in the air shot is great.

Weather sure is unpredictable this time of year. I haven't tried camping this early and will probably wait 'till things are more stable. I have a knack for bringing on bad weather when I camp.

So the carp didn't cooperate? Sorry to hear that. Those things can be surprisingly easy to catch sometimes, then the next time they are nearly impossible. I've found them to be pretty shy of my float tube.

[cool][#0000ff]Great report Joni. Too bad you did not get down there in the fall of '05, when the BIG bows were still there and plentiful. Twenty to thirty fish in a morning...with the small ones being in the 18" range and plenty over 20 (rhymes). [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The bigger ones were fat 6-8 pound fish and fought like steelhead. They were fat from gorging on the abundant fathead minnows, which they balled up on the surface or chased into shore. Any small white, gold or silver fry imitation would get crashed. And, they ALL jumped...multiple times.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Since then the perch have taken over the lake and cleaned out the minnows. There is still enough insect and zooplankton life to get the bows up to a fat 18", but not like the days of glory[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Bummer about the storm. That lake can get nasty. Of course, in Utah this time of year it can blow up fast almost anywhere. Glad you at least got in one day of fishing.[/#0000ff]

[black][size 3]Friday the two guys we talked to, said they caught 30 fish easy. But Saturday, those same two guys, plus several on the dock said the fish had turned off.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]I guess they were surpeised how many I caught.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]The Carp were hard to attract, but so were the bows. A 50' to 60' cast was required.[/size][/black]
