Would Willard be good this weekend for cats with rising temps?

Would the near 80 fahrenheit at Willard Bay help get the kittes

meowing for some nightcrawlers?


When I lived in Arizona near the Colorado I could catch channel cats

right after New Years but the Colorado was lowered for irrigation.

I want to go to the south dike I'm good at locating fish there after

all I have a fishing kayak.

Any suggestions on how to catch Wipers this time of year? Im just not educated

about Wipers.

The big thing with Willard is (IMO) is stable weather.... This up and down junk is no good for Willard. 2-3 warm days in a row should get the fish active.

I'm not sure what the water temp is out there right now, but as it rises, the cats usually get more active. And with it being so low, 80* weather can warm it up quickly.

Wipers this time of year are just so hit and miss. If you read back on some of the recent reports, people are either getting the skunk or they are catching 6 or 7 of them. Cover lots of water, and if you catch one, fish in that same area for awhile, and yu are likely to score a few more. Jigs seem to be the hot ticket when you find them. If it were me, I would fish a 3" curly tail or shad body in pearl or white. [cool]

i think sunday afternoon will be your best bet out there.... that is the oddest place i have ever fished for cats... it can be really easy.... or very difficult...

are u fishing from a boat or from shore??

try using worms or chub chunks ( will also catch wipers ) and i wouldn't wait them out for too long... i would fish one area and give it fourty minutes.... if you haven't caught one by then... then move... also concentrate on areas that have deepish water near by.... but dont be scared to fish shallow... they are going to be where the food is... and in the warmest water they can find.

the light pole area has produced so far this spring for me.. as well as the south west corner, and the mouth of the north marina.... but like i said .. its very hit and miss....

oh ya and for some reason hot dogs work really well for the bigger cats in there... dont ask me why but they do.. lol i dont use hot dogs but my neighbor does... and he only catches one or two but they are always bigger than any cat i have ever caught in there.... strange.

I learned where the fish are at there last summer at the south dike,

but with the lower water levels it should not be a problem in my

kayak I can go far or near the shore, whatever it takes.

Oh, what kind of hotdogs do you use? Beef? Chicken?

[#0000bf]As Flycasting points out, the cats can be moody, according to what the weather is doing. They usually hit a lot better after a couple of days of settled conditions.[/#0000bf]
