hit stewarts point for shore fishing around 615am. beautiful day except for the wind, kinda got us off our game. took one healthy 2lb striper and a dozen or so smaller ones by 10 and left. didnt see any shad up in that end of the lake yet. got most of the bites off cut anchovies, but took a few on various shad immitation lures. all in all a decent day, but cant wait for things to heat up in the oncoming weeks ahead.

OK, I give....."UNCLE!"

Took out my pontoon boat for an overnighter on Lake Mohave.
Used anchovies and fished all day and all night....
Not a nibble, not a striper........
I fished in the middle of the lake, in the coves and did land 5 Carp. Whoopie!.
I ve tried a fishing guide, tried trout imitation lures, whole and cut anchovies , even stink bait.... NOTHING!
Years ago a fishing friend of mine made a statement: "You need to be where the fish are"... Duh!.
Because I m in Bullhead City its difficult for me to get up to Mead.
I m down and out about fishing for stripers.
Sure would like to land a big fish but right now I d be happy with a one pounder......
You guys have suggestions for success ????
Here I am with a $27K pontoon and a body covered with mosquito bites.....thats all...........................
HELP!..

WAIT! DON'T JUMP! Things will get better! Life is worth living!

There's got to be something good about your trip. Did you enjoy the sunset? Okay, enough salt in the wound. I have fished Mojave a couple of times, in the fall, near Cottonwood Cove and caught small stripers on anchovies. Other than that all I can tell you is to hang in there and keep fishing!

The "Experts" say to fish down at the dam. I did....
Nothing.....
Nope, except the 5 Carp and two big Blue Gill....

I guess what I m asking yous Striper people is. Whats your secrete ?
I remove the anchovie head and fish with just the body.
I chum a bunch. I fish shallow and deep...
I use a fish finder that shows no fish..
I wonder if Mohave is fished out....

Sorry you did not get any stripers. I have had some trips like that also. How are you setting up your line? I do not have great experience with mohave. But for larger fish my friends go down there often and it is all or nothing it seems. It may take a few trips. But I would try a location for a few hours and if I did not catch anything I would relocate. Stripers are always on the move. They come by in waves. At night you can try a crappie light to attract shad. I would try the mouths of the coves. This time of year they come in shallow early and late for shad. Also try depts between 40 and 70 feet of water. That seems to work the best for me.Hope this helps.

ive never fished mojave so i cant help you there, and never get out on a boat so i dont know about depths and all. i do know that ive always used the anchovie head to help hold the bait on the hook. i cut the tail somewhere in the middle so the guts kinda get out there. then i slip the hook through the eyes once, then the gills to help keep it on the hook, and slide the actual hook on in the belly. i dont know if its right but its always worked for me. i never use a weight either, just let it kinda float around on its own. most of the time, if your in a group of stripers when you move it a bit by slowly bringin it in theyll hit it.

Steve,

There's a bank at the mouth of Arizona Bay upstream of Cottonwood launch. Sripers hang out there. Then maybe Aztec Wash and Placer Wash are places I know. I have also done well on the California side in coves across from Telephone Cove. Launch from Katherine Landing.

Advice on moving if no fish on the graph or no bites is well worth taking...

Thank You..

I m beginning to doubt if theres still fish in this area. Over fishing happened in San Diegos ocean. I watched the decline in my life and hoped it wouldnt happen in the river and lake. I usually spend overniters on my pontoon boat in the very area you mentioned...
Last week I never saw a fish in the Humminbird screen....
Maybe we ll meet on the lake. Thanks.

well you have to take the not so good with the good.

yesterday I fished 12 hours in a normaly productive lake in my area, and only saw two small gills and two rock bass all day. I saw other fish, just could not get them to hit on any thing...

if you are misforntunate to fish on a hatch day, you can forget pulling in any fish... yesterday was a hatch day for stone fly on my lake, I could see the fish hitting on top the water for empty stone fly larve husk. made me wished I had brought the fly rod....

other than those 4 fish I throughly drowned a single night crawler... how often do you use the same worm on your hook for 12 hours? not even a bait stealer....!

[cool] So, So ya think it might not be me ????

I m down to catching CARP !
Actually they put a really good fight but I dont have a desire to BBQ a Carp. Carp were brought to the USA as a food source.
I just cant get into the cooking of the fish......
Anyone out here eat Carp ?

I ve been selling Catfish bait on eBay. I sell a lot of the bait but for some reason people are not catching the Cats either. I thought it was my bait. Guess not..
