OK, this is it.
Stripers beware!
I m going with an "expert" striper fishing dude.
He guarantees that I m coming home with a cooler of fish.
Over the past week he has shown me how to perfectly apply my anchovie on the hook. How to rig my weight, leader and hook.
We are headed out to that secrete spot that I tried last week.
(not a nibble last week)................................
I ll report back tomorrow night and tell you how heavy my stringer was....

Got to the river at 5:30 AM. Casted out and I swear withing 15 seconds I had a two pounder on the line.
Re baited the hook and again, not more than one minute, Whammo! another.
It was now twenty minutes to six and things were looking good...
I fished til 10:30 AM and didnt see a bite or nibble after the first two . Neither did anyone else.
I guess it was my day but not as productive as I had hoped...
Two in the frying pan is waaaay more than I m used to.
The difference was in the way I hooked into the anchovie.
My buddy and "expert" striper guide gave me an anchovie "threader".
He said that he buys them at the local store.
They are 69 cents each and really work well.
Heck, Grandpa Steve can make these for much less. Later on this week, I plan on making a few to see if I can produce the threaders and ad them to my eBay selling items....
So, all in all, it was a good day fishing. Heck any day is a good fishing day.....

[cool]Hey steveweston, an anchovie threader huh? That is something I would like to see. I use anchovies, whole and pieces when I go surf fishing on my visits back to california. I'll be going in july and would like to get ahold of one.

The threader is a stiff wire with a very sharp end and a hook like thingie on the other end. You stick the wire up the rear end of the "dead" anchovie. It exits out the mouth. Then you pull the leader ( loop end) thru the fish which leaves the hook at the tail....and the leaders loop (eye) which exits the anchovies mouth. This keeps the bait on the line and keeps it looking good....
You can do this with a whole anchovie or half, ....
I think I can make the threader for about 39 cents each[angelic]. Dont know yet. Some stores have them but ????????????????

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the tutorial. Interesting, I'll have to use a threader the next time I go for big stripers. Unfortunately, the houseboat can only be used to fish depths of 15-30 feet...and so I can't reach the monster stripers.
By the way, let me know if you start mass producing those threaders.
Best regards,
Paul
