Lake Mead Friday Evening
#1
Friday, 06/08/07- Hit the water about 5:00pm. What a great day to solo!

Smooth as glass!

Headed into Hole 33. Couple of guys kicking around in floattubes tossing lures. Noticed some surface action around a small island and moved in to check it out. A school of small stripers were rounding up a ball of tiny shad. Tossed in a small Zara Puppy and landed a nice two pounder. Continued following the stripers around until they left the area. Ended up with four nice fish and a lure with a bent hook.

Anchored at the edge of the channel, chummed a ton, and started soaking cut bait with two poles.

Added seven more to the box.

Sun started to sink, pulled anchor and slowly motored to Las Vegas Wash. The entire wash seemed to be filled with shad. It looked like raindrops were hitting the water around the shoreline. Soon the stripers moved in. It was AWESOME! As the light faded, a school of stripers would surface and feed. I would use the trolling motor to move within casting range and toss a small popper in the mix. This action continued well after dark, and resulted in several more fish in the box. I was the only one in the area. It was great!

Night stripers on deck!

Nice, dark ride back to the marina. Off the water by 9:45pm.
Can't wait to do it again!

Hello Baysport,

That sure looked AWESOME!!! Wish I was out there also. We had pretty good luck in the slurps with 1/4 ounce castmasters. The slurps we encountered were very fast we could not keep up with the trolling motor. I am getting hooked on top water fishing this is my first year really pounding the surface. Have not stayed still long enough to relax and bait fish yet. Great Report!!

Was ready for topwater because of your good reports. I'll have a 1/4 oz kastmaster ready for tomorrow! The Zara Puppy worked okay. Many times, I could tell small stripers were chasing it, but did not strike. Bet I casted over twenty times to catch those four fish in Hole 33.

It is difficult keeping up with those slurps. I was lucky a couple of times when they reappeared right next to the boat!

I'll be on the water at 5:00 am to try again. Heading straight to the wash to look for shad. Live Bait, topwater, or cut bait, I'll be ready!

[cool]Hey BaySport, I was out there just south of the 33 hole from 11:30am til 4:30pm in my floattube. There were slurps everywhere!! I would get bit once in awhile on 3" guld minnow grubs. I finally got them to bite more atfer 4:00pm. Caught 8 and kept 3(1.5 lbers). It was weird to have the school feed right up to the tube and then disperse. Good to hear you got some bigger ones on the surface.
