What to do???
#1
Hello All:
I was out at Eagle Island the other day and the fish were jumpin out of the water left and right. They were grabbing the dragon flys and buterflys faster than you can believe.
Needless to say, I was not prepared for that and my attempt at 10 different lures was not successful.
What do I use when the fish are hitting the top like that?
I don't want to start "fly fishing", but would like some suggestions.
Do they make lures that look like dragon flys?
I'm going back this weekend and am determined to catch something, and I don't mean West Nile.

Thanks,

Wibby

P.S. Thanks for the BFT stickers and for the free catfish tip.
Still have not had a chance to catfish, was to busy bringing home my new little 7 lbs baby boy.

Congratulations on the new addition, Wibby.

Might try a floating worm or a Hellgrammite rigged weightless in say 3" on a spinning rod.

Some of the more experienced Bassers here might know a good trick.

You can take a fly and put a bobber a couple of feet up. Fly fishing with out the flyrod. Try the folks on the flyfishing board for what to use to match the hatch.

Gdn443 hit the nail on the head.

The good ole Bubble/Fly set up is the spincast and baitcasters "Foot in the Door" to flyfishing without having to wave the fairy wand as some call it.

I do flyfish as well so I am not stepping on anybodies toes here.

The setup for the Bubble/Fly is rather easy to arrange.

1. String your line through the center of the casting bubble making sure that the orientation is correct on the bubble.

2. Tie a small swivel to the end of the line.

3. Tie a 2 to 3 foot leader to the end of the swivel.

4. tie your fly to the end of the leader.

for added distance, partially fill the bubble with water. For added attraction, add 1/2 dozen #6 split shot in the bubble for rattle.

A good pattern to use when you cannot find a dragonfly is the damsel fly pattern. It is just like the Dragonfly without wings.
